Carnival afternoon in costume for children and families in Piazza Libertà
The Maranello Carnival is the event that, every year between February and March, transforms Piazza Libertà into the centre of a grand afternoon of celebration dedicated to children and families. Organised by the Municipality of Maranello through the Education Service, the event takes place in the heart of the town in the province of Modena, known worldwide as the home of Ferrari, but also capable of preserving a community dimension made up of initiatives designed for its youngest citizens.
The common thread of the event is the creativity of the little ones. Throughout the afternoon, the square is filled with creative workshops divided by age groups, from toddlers to eleven-year-olds, with offerings ranging from sensory pouring to creative recycling, from origami to Carnival masks. There is also face painting, travelling stories, board game stations, and entertainment activities that change from edition to edition, always with the same focus on play and participation.
One of the characteristics of the Maranello Carnival is its openness to the theme of inclusion. Among recent guests was the Banda Rulli e Frulli from Finale Emilia, a musical ensemble that brings together boys, adolescents, and young adults, both able-bodied and with disabilities, capable of livening up the square with itinerant musical performances and workshops open to children. It is a sign of a celebration that aims to be truly for everyone.
Unlike the major historical carnivals of Emilia-Romagna, the Maranello Carnival is not a parade of floats but a widespread piazza celebration, with free admission, built around the needs of families with children. Children and adults are invited to participate in costume, while a refreshment area managed by local associations completes the offering. In case of bad weather, the event is generally postponed to a later date, indicating the organisers' intention to ensure it still takes place.
