The local chestnut is more than just a culinary excuse; it is the product that shaped the landscape and traditions of Manziana. The festival is traditionally held in mid-October, spanning an entire weekend from Friday to Sunday evening.

The historic center becomes a walkable path

The formula that makes this festival so recognizable is its layout: rather than concentrating everything in one area, the organizers set up a long pedestrian route that winds through the town center. Streets and squares—from Piazza Tommaso Tittoni to the town's wider spaces—are filled with stalls, markets, and scattered stages. Visitors don't follow a single fixed program; instead, they create their own itinerary, encountering musical groups, street performers, or local product vendors along the way. This approach gives the event a unique rhythm, feeling more like a leisurely stroll than a structured show.

The cuisine of the chestnut

Who organizes it

The event is managed by the Associazione Sagra della Castagna Locale, a Manziana-based organization formally established in December 2008. It coordinates the work of volunteers, stallholders, and performing groups, with the support of the Municipality of Manziana. The voluntary and community-driven nature of the organization is an integral part of the festival's identity, which remains a true village event even when welcoming thousands of visitors.

Manziana, whose name derives from the Silva Mantiana that once surrounded the ancient settlement, preserves Etruscan roots and a compact historic center. Its location, a short distance from Lake Bracciano and the Caldara di Manziana, makes a visit to the festival a perfect opportunity to discover the Sabatini area in autumn, when the forests turn into a tapestry of seasonal colors.
