About Santa Claus Village

Every December, the historic center of Tolfa, a hilltop village north of Rome, turns into the Santa Claus Village: two weekends of artisan markets, themed attractions like Santa's House and the Befana's Workshop, fire shows, Christmas parades, and local farm-to-table flavors. This free event, organized by the La Filastrocca association in collaboration with the Municipality of Tolfa, has been drawing families from across the Lazio region since 2014, offering a fairytale atmosphere amidst stone alleys and squares.

A village that becomes a fairytale

The Tolfa Santa Claus Village is one of the most beloved Christmas events on the Lazio coast and in the hinterland north of Rome. For two weekends in December, the historic center of the village—perched in the Tolfa Mountains within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital—dresses up for the holidays: Piazza Vittorio Veneto and Via Roma fill with lights, wooden huts, costumed characters, and elves, turning the entire town into an enchanted village. Born in 2014 from an idea by the cultural association La Filastrocca, which oversees its artistic direction, the event has grown edition after edition to become a true tradition, supported by the Municipality of Tolfa, the Pro Loco, local districts, merchants, and the Lazio Region.

Themed attractions

The heart of the experience lies in the themed locations scattered throughout the alleys and small squares: in the 2025 edition, there were eleven of them, designed to spark the imagination of both children and adults.

  • Santa's House, where children can meet Santa Claus and deliver their letters;
  • The Befana's Workshop, filled with stories and sweets;
  • The Gingerbread House and the Christmas Park;
  • The Grinch's Lair, featuring gags and comic incursions by the famous party-pooper;
  • an area inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas, for a slightly darker Christmas vibe;
  • The Artisans' Way, a showcase of local craftsmanship.

Artisan markets

With its 28 artisan installations, the Village hosts one of the richest Christmas markets in Lazio: handmade creations, gift ideas, local products, and the leatherwork that made Tolfa famous, home of the catana, the traditional Tolfetano bag. Strolling through the stalls is also a way to discover the identity of a village that has made craftsmanship its hallmark.

Shows and entertainment

The program alternates between fire shows, bubble artists, street bands, stilt walkers, magic tricks, dance performances, and a mini-circus. The highlight is the Grand Christmas Parade, which winds through the village with all the Village characters, while the Christmas Bikers Parade accompanies Santa's sleigh in a two-wheeled procession that is a favorite among children. On the final day, a treasure hunt for the little ones and the traditional tombola (bingo) at the town hall are added to the festivities.

Farm-to-table flavors

Restaurants and food stands offer traditional dishes from the Lazio hills using zero-kilometer products: a perfect opportunity to taste the cuisine of the Tolfa Mountains between a walk and a show, in a territory where free-range farming and genuine flavors are still the protagonists.

Nativity scene and urban trekking

The experience is completed by the Presepio Giocondo, a life-sized nativity scene with a Franciscan inspiration, and urban trekking routes that allow you to discover glimpses, churches, and architecture of the historic center, up to the slopes of the Rocca dei Frangipane that overlooks the town.

A community Christmas

More than just a market, the Santa Claus Village is a community celebration: dozens of volunteers work for weeks on the widespread set design, with the patronage and contribution of the Lazio Region, the Municipality of Tolfa, and local sponsors. Admission is free, and the atmosphere felt among the illuminated streets of the village is the true gift of this December event.

Santa Claus Village — edition 2026

The thirteenth edition of the Tolfa Santa Claus Village is expected for December 2026, though official dates have not yet been announced by the organization. As per tradition, the village's historic center is expected to come alive for two weekends with artisan markets, themed attractions, parades, and family entertainment, with free admission.

Following the success of the twelfth edition in 2025, the Santa Claus Village is expected to return to animate Tolfa in December 2026. The La Filastrocca association and the Municipality of Tolfa have not yet communicated the official dates: based on previous editions, the event is expected during the central weekends of December. The consolidated format includes artisan markets spread throughout the historic center, Santa's House, the Befana's Workshop, Christmas parades, street performances, and farm-to-table gastronomy.

This page will be updated as soon as the program and dates for the thirteenth edition are announced on the event's official channels.
