About Mangialonga Cavagnolo

The Mangialonga in Cavagnolo is a food and wine walking tour held every May 1st. It takes hundreds of participants along a 7-kilometre hilly route, starting and finishing at the Abbazia di Santa Fede sports field. Combining dirt paths and paved sections, scenic views of the Po River, and delicious stops hosted by local Pro Loco associations, the event blends exercise, conviviality, and charity, with all proceeds donated to good causes. A popular tradition involving the towns of Cavagnolo, Lauriano, Monteu da Po, and Brusasco in the heart of Piedmont.

The Mangialonga, a Canavese tradition

The Mangialonga is one of the most beloved food and wine walking tours in the hilly region between the Canavese and Monferrato areas, based in the town of Cavagnolo, in the Province of Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. Every May 1st, the event attracts hundreds of walkers who choose to spend Labour Day in the open air, combining the pleasure of a hike with the delights of good food.

A route through hills and panoramas

The hub of the day is the Abbazia di Santa Fede sports field on Via San Lorenzo in Cavagnolo, where the entire route begins and ends. The trail covers approximately 7 kilometres with an elevation gain of about 220 metres, winding through a hilly landscape consisting of 60% dirt tracks and 40% asphalt. Along the way, participants enjoy panoramic views of the hills and the Po Valley, passing through vineyards, woodlands, and small villages.

Delicious stops

What makes the Mangialonga special are the food and wine stops scattered along the route, managed by the organizing Pro Loco associations. Traditional highlights include:

  • breakfast at the small church of San Rocco;
  • refreshments with fruit juice at the giant bench;
  • crostini and other local specialities offered along the way.

Each edition features typical local dishes and products, accompanied by wines from the hills, in a convivial atmosphere that is the true heart of the event.

A collective and charitable event

The Mangialonga is jointly organized by the Pro Loco associations of Cavagnolo, Lauriano, Monteu da Po, and Brusasco, with the patronage of their respective municipalities and the support of the Piedmont Region and Unpli Piemonte. The initiative has a strong charitable focus: the proceeds from the event are donated to charity, making every step a small gesture of support for the community.

Why participate

Suitable for families, groups of friends, and hiking enthusiasts, the Mangialonga in Cavagnolo is the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Piedmont, blending nature, gastronomy, and tradition. It is a well-established appointment in the Canavese spring calendar, capable of renewing itself year after year while keeping its popular spirit intact.
