Flavors and crafts of the Alcantara Valley between Etna and the Nebrodi mountains
The Malvagna Food, Wine and Craft Fair is an event that celebrates the gastronomic and artisanal excellence of one of the most evocative territories in the province of Messina. Malvagna is a small municipality of just over six hundred inhabitants, perched at an altitude of 710 meters in the Alcantara Valley, within the Alcantara River Park and close to the Bosco di Malabotta Nature Reserve. From here, the view opens up over Mount Etna and the characteristic Mount Mojo, an ancient volcanic cone that dominates the valley.
The heart of the fair is the food and wine section, where producers and farmers showcase the best of local tradition. Among the specialties that can be tasted and purchased:
Alongside taste, the fair promotes artistic trades: along the streets of the historic center and in Piazza Roma, artisans line up to exhibit handmade creations in wood, ceramics, iron, stone, wicker, fabric, and embroidery. It is an opportunity to rediscover ancient knowledge passed down from generation to generation and to support the small businesses of the Alcantara Valley, the Nebrodi mountains, and the Etna area.
The fair is also an invitation to visit Malvagna and its heritage: from the famous Byzantine Cuba, an early medieval religious building, to the panoramic views over the valley. The event, organized by the Municipality of Malvagna, takes place in a familiar and welcoming atmosphere, far from the major tourist circuits, ideal for those seeking the most authentic side of Sicily.
The Malvagna Food, Wine and Craft Fair returns in 2026 with the date set for June 28. As every year, the fair will enliven Piazza Roma and the streets of the center with stalls featuring local products and local crafts.
Visitors will be able to taste the specialties of the territory, from Nebrodi black pork sausage to friscaturi, accompanied by local wines, oils, and cheeses. The full program, with times and side events, will be announced shortly by the Municipality of Malvagna.
Malvagna is located in the Alcantara Valley, in the province of Messina. By car, it can be reached from the A18 Messina-Catania motorway (Giardini Naxos exit) by going up the valley, or from the SS185 that connects the Ionian coast to Randazzo. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa.
Access to the fair is free. The food, wine, and craft stalls are concentrated in Piazza Roma and the historic center.
We recommend combining your visit to the fair with an excursion to the Alcantara River Park and the Bosco di Malabotta Reserve. Accommodation is available in the valley's agritourisms and in nearby towns such as Randazzo and Francavilla di Sicilia.
