Holiday festivities featuring illuminations, Christmas markets, and shows in the heart of Taormina

Every year, between late November and Epiphany, Taormina puts on its festive attire and lights up the Taormina Christmas Dream, a major series of events that brings the historic center, local districts, and the coastline of this famous town in the Province of Messina, Sicily, to life. Supported by the municipal administration and the Tourism Department, the event was created with a clear goal: to extend the tourist season and offer residents and visitors a widespread Christmas atmosphere, filled with lights, music, and tradition in one of the most beloved locations on the Ionian coast.
The festivities kick off with the switching on of the illuminations in the heart of the city. Lights adorn Piazza Duomo, the Clock Tower, Corso Umberto, and the scenic Piazza IX Aprile, which, with its terrace overlooking the sea and Mount Etna, becomes Taormina's festive living room. In the following days, the lighting of the Christmas trees reaches the districts of Mazzeo and Trappitello, involving the entire municipal territory in a trail of light.
Among the most anticipated events are the Christmas markets, set up at the Villa Comunale and along the streets of the center, featuring artisan stalls, local products, and gift ideas. There is no shortage of nativity scenes, including the evocative living nativity scene of Trappitello, which can be visited between Christmas and Epiphany, and the festive village designed for families. The Palazzo dei Congressi returns to being the beating heart of the program, hosting dozens of shows over a few weeks.
The program blends genres and appeals to all audiences: gospel and Christmas concerts, swing shows, immersive video mapping displays in the squares, theater evenings, and appearances by major Italian music and entertainment stars. Plenty of space is dedicated to the little ones, with the arrival of Santa Claus, musicals inspired by animation classics, and circus performances. Popular traditions like the lighting of the great bonfire (the "zuccu") complete a calendar that unites the sacred and the profane right up to the Befana.
The New Year's Eve countdown enlivens Piazza IX Aprile, followed in the first days of January by concerts, neighborhood events, and appointments dedicated to Epiphany, which close the long Christmas Dream season. For those visiting Sicily during the holidays, Taormina offers an experience that combines the charm of its historical heritage with the vibrancy of a Christmas program designed for everyone.
The Taormina Christmas Dream 2026 is expected to renew the appointment with Christmas in the Pearl of the Ionian, in the Province of Messina. The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Municipality of Taormina. Based on previous editions, the event takes place between late November and Epiphany, with illuminations, markets at the Villa Comunale, a living nativity, video mapping, and family events. We will update this page as soon as the official program is available.
