Great jazz at the Teatro del Mare, on the port of the Amalfi Coast
Maiori Jazz & More is the music festival that brings jazz every summer to the pier of the tourist port of Maiori, a town on the Amalfi Coast in the province of Salerno, Campania. The stage is the Teatro del Mare, an open-air amphitheater facing directly onto the water: about five hundred seats, the Lattari Mountains in the background, and the sound of the waves providing a natural backdrop to the concerts. It is a setting that needs no scenery and has become an integral part of the festival's identity over the years.
Promoted by the Municipality of Maiori, the event has carved out a recognized space among the region's jazz festivals thanks to a simple formula: a few concerts, all free with reservation, featuring artists of national and international renown. The result is often sold-out evenings, with an audience that mixes locals, vacationers from the Coast, and enthusiasts arriving from Salerno and the Naples area.
The festival's title says it all: jazz in the strict sense is joined by soul, blues, gospel, vocal swing, and singer-songwriter music, in a journey that does not limit itself to a single language. Alongside the great standards of the American Songbook, there is room for projects dedicated to Neapolitan song, Mediterranean influences, and reinterpretations of the Italian singer-songwriter repertoire.
Past editions have seen top-tier names take the stage at the Teatro del Mare, such as Fabrizio Bosso, Stefano Di Battista, Tullio De Piscopo, American trumpeter Jumaane Smith—a soloist alongside Michael Bublé for years—and Neapolitan singer Walter Ricci. The programming intentionally alternates between pure jazz musicians, soul voices, and more popular projects to bring together both die-hard enthusiasts and those enjoying a summer evening by the sea.
All concerts are held at the Teatro del Mare, set up on the pier of the tourist port of Maiori. Shows usually start at 9:30 PM, with some events scheduled earlier at sunset. The space is outdoors and has about 500 seats: hence the need to book, as availability often runs out within hours of reservations opening.
Maiori Jazz & More is not an isolated event: it is part of the Municipality's summer program, which features over sixty appointments from late June to September every year. Alongside jazz, there is the Maiori Danza festival, with academic performances and the Grand Dance Gala, and Maiori Festival, dedicated to instrumental, chamber, and classical music, hosted in the Gardens of Palazzo Mezzacapo, the Hall of Frescoes, and in the surrounding hamlets, including Erchie.
In August, the calendar focuses on the Patronal Feast of Santa Maria a Mare, with the procession, the Madonna's race, and fireworks over the sea, as well as major pop concerts at the Tourist Port. Added to this is the De.Co. Chocolate Eggplant Festival, dedicated to the most iconic dessert of the Amalfi Coast: a combination that surprises those who discover it for the first time and is a consolidated tradition in Maiori.
For those visiting the Amalfi Coast in July and August, Maiori Jazz & More is the perfect opportunity to combine an evening of quality music with an incomparable landscape. Maiori, with the longest beach on the Coast and a center gathered around Corso Reginna, also offers a convenient and less crowded base compared to Amalfi or Positano, well-connected by sea and land. The fact that the concerts are free makes the festival accessible even for those on a family vacation.
The 2026 edition of Maiori Jazz & More confirms the formula that has made the Municipality of Maiori's festival so recognizable: free concerts at the Teatro del Mare, on the tourist port, starting at 9:30 PM with mandatory seat reservation. Five appointments distributed between July 8 and August 5, within a municipal summer calendar that exceeds sixty events.
The musical journey crosses multiple languages: the Neapolitan-style jazz of Marco Zurzolo, the international contemporary jazz of saxophonist Seamus Blake, the American vocal swing of Joyce Elaine Yuille, the singer-songwriter style of Simona Molinari, and finally the dialogue between American tradition and Neapolitan classics proposed by the Orchestra Pop Ruah.
Reservations on Eventbrite opened on July 1, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Given the limited capacity of the amphitheater by the sea, it is advisable to book well in advance.
The program is promoted by the Municipality of Maiori. Times may be subject to change: it is advisable to check the Municipality's official portal before traveling.
Maiori can be reached by car along the SS163 Amalfitana road, from Vietri sul Mare (about 15 km) or from Amalfi (about 5 km). In summer, traffic on the coast is heavy and parking is limited: it is best to arrive well in advance or use the paid parking lots at the port and the seafront.
The nearest train station is Salerno, which is connected to high-speed rail; from there, SITA Sud buses depart for the Amalfi Coast. In summer, sea connections from Salerno, Amalfi, and Positano also operate, docking directly at the port of Maiori, just a few steps from the Teatro del Mare. The nearest airport is Naples-Capodichino.
Concerts at Maiori Jazz & More are free with seat reservations on the Eventbrite platform. Reservations usually open at the beginning of July and run out quickly: it is advisable to book as soon as they become available and arrive before the start time.
