The food and wine walk through the hills of the Modenese Apennines
The Magnalonga of Serramazzoni is one of those experiences that encapsulate all the beauty of the Modenese Apennines in a single day: the pleasure of walking in nature, the curiosity of discovering little-known villages and hamlets, and, above all, the joy of shared meals. It is a non-competitive food and wine walk, a formula now beloved in Emilia-Romagna where the walking route intertwines with a series of gastronomic stops: at each stage, a different tasting awaits you, from appetizer to dessert, accompanied by local wine and beer.
The itinerary winds for about 12 kilometers through the hills surrounding Serramazzoni, in the heart of the Province of Modena. It is a light trek, also suitable for families and children, which crosses fields, paths, and picturesque corners of the Apennines. The edition dedicated to the discovery of the hamlets of San Dalmazio and Riccò starts and ends at the San Dalmazio Sports Field, from which groups depart in staggered intervals to enjoy the walk at their own pace.
Along the route, there are nine food and wine stops curated by local producers and volunteers from the hamlets. Dairies, charcuteries, farmhouses, and wineries open their doors to walkers to sample Apennine specialties: cheeses, cured meats, crescentine, traditional dishes, accompanied by wines from the Frignano area and local craft beer. The entire day is enlivened by music and joy, in a village festival atmosphere that involves the entire community.
The Magnalonga is organized by the Pro Loco of Serramazzoni together with the volunteers of San Dalmazio and Riccò, and in just a few years it has become an anticipated event of the Apennine summer. More than just a hike, it is a way to promote and celebrate the traditions, flavors, and hospitality of an authentic corner of the Emilia-Romagna Region, where good food has always been part of the local identity.
The fourth edition of the Magnalonga of Serramazzoni, scheduled for Sunday, June 14, 2026, takes walkers to discover the hamlets of San Dalmazio and Riccò. The circular route of about 12 kilometers crosses hills, nature, and villages, starting and ending at the San Dalmazio Sports Field. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Serramazzoni with volunteers from the two hamlets.
