Walking and tasting through the vineyards, lakes, and canals of Bassa Romagna
The Magnalonga of Mordano is now an anticipated spring event in the small municipality of Mordano, in the province of Bologna, on the border with Imolese Romagna. Organized by the Pro Loco Mordano APS, it is a food and wine walk that combines two simple pleasures: walking in company through the beauties of a territory and stopping to taste the typical products of Romagna tradition.
The name itself, "Magnalonga", says it all: you magna (eat, in dialect) along a long route, stop by stop, without haste.
The itinerary winds for about 8 km completely flat, far from traffic, through vineyards, farm tracks, and cycle paths. It starts from the Chapel of San Francesco, in the center of Mordano, and arrives at the Bubano Nature Oasis, a wetland of great environmental value born from the basins of a former quarry. Along the way, you cross suggestive views of the town and its hamlets: the two towers, the Renaissance walls, the Monastery of San Francesco, the Sforza tower of Bubano, and Piazza Dante Cassani.
The average duration of the walk, including stops at the taverns, is about three or four hours. You walk in groups accompanied by Pro Loco volunteers, with staggered departures to avoid crowding the stops.
The heart of the Magnalonga are the five taverns scattered along the route, each dedicated to a different course: from appetizer to dessert, including first and second courses and a refreshment. At each stop, the break lasts a maximum of twenty-five minutes, enough time to taste the dishes, sip local wines, and enjoy live music or entertainment. Each participant receives a convenient glass holder with a goblet to wear around their neck for tastings; for children, a colored glass and non-alcoholic drinks.
The Magnalonga is much more than a walk: it is a village festival that celebrates conviviality, food and wine, and the connection with the territory of Bassa Romagna. Local farms provide the wines, while Pro Loco volunteers take care of every detail, from cooking to entertainment. Both a classic menu and a vegetarian option are available, to be indicated when booking, and particular attention is given to those with food intolerances.
The 2026 edition of the Magnalonga of Mordano, the sixth, is scheduled for Sunday, May 10, 2026. Departures are staggered every half hour from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Along the way, five taverns offer traditional Romagna dishes accompanied by local wines and live music. Mandatory booking through the Pro Loco Mordano website, with registrations closing on May 8, 2026.
