A month of festivities celebrating the patron saints Vittore and Corona
Every year in May, the small town of Montaldo Torinese becomes the beating heart of the Chieri hills. The Maggio Montaldese is a festival that unites the Patronal Feast of Saints Vittore and Corona with a series of initiatives that animate the village and its hamlets throughout the month. It is a community celebration in the truest sense, designed for local residents but capable of attracting visitors from across the province of Turin.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Montaldo Torinese, which proudly upholds the motto #UnBorgoDaScoprire (A Village to Discover), alongside the Alpini group, local associations, and a dedicated team of volunteers. This network of local energy builds a calendar each year designed for the entire community, where every generation finds something to enjoy: from children's workshops and shows to the elderly rediscovering the games and flavors of the past.
The Maggio Montaldese program alternates moments of spirituality linked to the patron saints with many secular and festive offerings. These range from Piedmontese-language theater to Vespa rides along the scenic hill roads, guided nature hikes, and traditional games for families. Naturally, the gastronomic dimension is a key highlight: local cuisine, Alpini-style barbecues, and the highly anticipated Sunday Fried Feast, a lunch featuring mixed fried fish that draws numerous diners every year.
Montaldo Torinese is located in one of the most picturesque areas of Piedmont, on the hills separating Turin from the Chieri area, now part of the UNESCO CollinaPo Biosphere Reserve. During Maggio Montaldese, the village becomes the ideal starting point for those wishing to combine a village festival with the discovery of trails, vineyards, and hilly vistas. A true opportunity to experience the authentic hospitality of a small Piedmontese town.
Montaldo Torinese is located about 20 km from Turin, in the Chieri hills. By car, it is easily reached from the Turin ring road (tangenziale) in the direction of Chieri/Pino Torinese. As it is not directly served by rail, it is best to arrive by car or via bus connections from Chieri.
