Livestock fair, exhibition, and typical cuisine in Fiaschetti di Caneva
In Fiaschetti di Caneva, a small hamlet nestled at the foot of the Cansiglio in the province of Pordenone, the "Maggio Fiaschettano" is much more than a local festival: it's the community's very calendar. Now in its sixty-third edition, the event has its roots in the farming world and has transformed over the years into a grand village festival lasting almost three weeks, from late April to mid-May, attracting visitors from all over Western Friuli and neighboring Veneto.
The core identity remains agricultural. On May 1st, the cattle exhibition, one of the oldest and most popular in the area, takes place, accompanied by the cheese auction, an artisan market, and sector exhibitions. These are days when the village fills with breeders, exhibitors, and curious onlookers, amidst animals on display, local products, and tools of the trade: a bond with the land that the festival proudly preserves.
Under the large covered tent, cuisine is the star throughout the festival: pork knuckle, frico, burrata, and traditional Friulian dishes, served at tables and paired with local wines. The evenings are marked by dance orchestras and ballroom music, card tournaments, tribute concerts, and themed evenings, in an intergenerational format that pleases both grandparents and grandchildren. The funfair, a staple for the little ones, is also present.
Alongside gastronomy and music, the program includes sporting eventsโyouth cycling races, football quadrangular tournaments, dog showsโand cultural offerings such as photographic exhibitions and community commemorations. To close the celebrations, the traditional fireworks display lights up the Fiaschetti sky, bidding farewell to a May of festivities promoted by the Pro Loco with the support of the Municipality of Caneva.
The 2026 edition, the 63rd, runs from April 29 to May 17 in Fiaschetti di Caneva with a packed schedule of evening events. May 1st remains the highlight day with the 61st cattle exhibition, the 12th cheese auction, the artisan market, wood carvings, exhibitions, and food stalls open with street performers.
The evenings feature a mix of dance orchestras, tribute concerts, tournaments, and themed nights, while the kitchen offers specialties like pork knuckle, frico, and burrata. The festival concludes on the evening of May 17th with a fireworks display.
