A sensory journey at the Villa Comunale in Misterbianco
Maggio del Gusto is the food, wine, and cultural festival that enlivens the Villa Comunale of Misterbianco—a town in the Metropolitan City of Catania at the foot of Mount Etna—every year in late spring. Under the subtitle A sensory journey, the event offers two evenings entirely dedicated to the gastronomic excellence of Sicily and the Etna territory, featuring wine, olive oil, local flavors, live music, and the arts.
During the event, the municipal gardens are transformed into a large open-air lounge, complete with artistic stands and tasting stations. The public can savor Sicilian wines and gourmet products, following an itinerary that blends taste, wellness, visual arts, and music. The format, designed for enthusiasts, curious visitors, and families, alternates convivial moments with in-depth experiences such as masterclasses and showcooking.
The gastronomic heart of the event is entrusted to local chefs and producers. Highlights from recent editions include showcooking by chef Francesco Tosto, executive chef at the Hotel Villa Esperia in Taormina, and masterclasses dedicated to wines and Etna olive cultivars, which represent the true identity of the agricultural landscape on the slopes of the volcano.
Each evening concludes with a concert. The program has featured prominent artists from the Sicilian and national scene, such as singer-songwriter Mario Venuti, as well as jazz ensembles like the Trio Triskèlè and DJ sets that accompany the public late into the night, making music the perfect synthesis of taste and culture.
Organized by the Municipality of Misterbianco, the festival celebrates the gastronomic identity of the eastern Sicilian Etna territory, famous for its Etna wines and excellent olive oils. Maggio del Gusto is a unique opportunity to discover these flavors in a welcoming urban setting, just a few kilometers from Catania.
