The Madonna della Neve Patronal Feast is the most important event on the calendar in Crispiano, a town in the Province of Taranto, in the heart of Puglia. Every year at the beginning of August, the town celebrates its patron saint with three days that weave together religious devotion, popular tradition, and entertainment, drawing families, returning emigrants, and visitors from neighboring towns to the square.
The Madonna della Neve was proclaimed patron saint of Crispiano on August 5, 1945: since then, her liturgical solemnity has marked the highlight of the festivities. The devotion is guarded by the local parish, founded in 1826: a community with deep roots that experiences the feast not just as a summer event, but as an authentic moment of identity for the entire town.
The program alternates between the sacred and the secular. The days begin with Eucharistic celebrations in the parish church and culminate on August 5 with the Solemn Mass and the characteristic handing over of the city keys to the patron saint by the Mayor, a symbolic gesture highly anticipated by the population. This is followed by the procession of the statue through the streets of the center, accompanied by the band and the faithful.
On the secular side, the festival is brought to life by artistic illuminations, the bandstand, and above all by the grand brass band concerts, which represent one of the most beloved musical traditions in Southern Italy: every evening, a different band performs in the main square. To close the festivities, around midnight, the unmissable fireworks display lights up the sky over Crispiano.
Strolling among the illuminations, listening to brass band concerts under the stars, following the procession, and waiting for the fireworks: the Madonna della Neve Feast is the ideal opportunity to discover the authentic soul of this village in the Taranto Murgia, also famous for its historic masserie (farmhouses). A free-entry event that is deeply popular and welcoming.
The 2026 edition of the Madonna della Neve Patronal Feast is expected in Crispiano, as every year, in the first days of August, on the occasion of the patron saint's solemnity. At the current date, the parish has not yet released the official dates or the program of festivities.
The year 2026 also holds special significance for the community: it coincides with the bicentenary of the parish's foundation (1826-2026). As soon as the calendar and the detailed program are published, this page will be updated with celebrations, brass band concerts, and civil events.
The festivities take place in the center of Crispiano (TA), centered around the parish church area and the square named after the Madonna della Neve.
By car: Crispiano is a few kilometers from Taranto and Martina Franca, accessible via the SS172. By train: the Crispiano station is served by the Ferrovie del Sud Est on the Taranto-Martina Franca line. Nearest airports: Bari-Palese and Brindisi.
