Two villages in the Caserta Matese united for Made in Italy
In the heart of inland Campania, where the province of Caserta climbs the slopes of the Matese massif, the small villages of Ciorlano and Raviscanina have chosen to team up. The Made in Italy Day and Flowered Balconies Competition was born as part of the National Made in Italy Day, promoted by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, and is organized by the Pro Loco Rupecanina APS together with the Pro Loco Ciorlano and sister associations belonging to the Ente Pro Loco Italiane (EPLI). The event spans two dates, April 25th and May 1st, transforming the streets and squares of the two towns into a widespread itinerary of flowers, history, and flavors.
At the heart of the initiative is the Flowered Balconies competition, which involves resident families in decorating balconies, windowsills, and corners of the historic centers. The floral arrangements color the alleys and become part of an open-air itinerary, judged by a committee that will announce the winners on the final evening. It is a simple and participatory way to bring life back to the villages, restoring beauty to the most authentic corners and stimulating community pride.
The event is also an opportunity to visit two lesser-known but fascinating places. In Ciorlano, you can explore the medieval historic center, visit the Church of the Annunziata, and reach the Cistercian castle, defined by historians as the hidden treasure of Campania. In Raviscanina, the route touches the small chapel of the Madonnina di Lourdes, which holds the story of Geltrude Perrone, and the small Casa Celestino V museum, dedicated to the Pope who originated from the Castrum Rupecanina. Tastings of typical Matese products complete an experience that combines landscape, memory, and gastronomy.
Behind the festival lies a concrete goal: to bring tourists, curious travelers, and visitors back to villages marked by depopulation and to enhance the landscape, history, and local products of the Matese area. Through the collaboration between Pro Loco, municipalities, and citizens, the Made in Italy Day thus becomes a small engine of rebirth for this quiet corner of the province of Caserta.
Promoted by the Pro Loco Rupecanina APS together with the Pro Loco Ciorlano, the 2026 edition united the two villages of the Caserta Matese as part of the National Made in Italy Day. The day of April 25th opened the doors of the medieval historic center of Ciorlano and the afternoon in Raviscanina, while May 1st closed the initiative with the competition awards, music, and the food stand. An opportunity to rediscover the historical, artistic, and gastronomic heritage of two municipalities in the province of Caserta.
The event takes place between Ciorlano (meeting point at Piazza Don Carmelo Vendettuoli) and Raviscanina, in the province of Caserta, in the Matese area.
Saturday, April 25th, 2026 (Ciorlano in the morning, Raviscanina in the afternoon) and Friday, May 1st, 2026 (final evening in Raviscanina).
By car, you can reach the two villages from the Caianello motorway exit (A1) heading up towards the upper Caserta area and the Matese. A private car is recommended, given the inland and hilly nature of the area.
An initiative promoted as part of the National Made in Italy Day, designed as an opening of the villages to visitors. For updated times and details, it is recommended to follow the channels of the Pro Loco Rupecanina and Pro Loco Ciorlano.
