A challenge of running and cycling in the heart of Aulla, Lunigiana
The Lunigiana Sprint Duathlon is the sporting event that brought a duathlon race to the Lunigiana region for the first time, held in Aulla, in the province of Massa-Carrara, in the heart of Tuscany. Organized by Triathlon Tigullio Spezia A.S.D. in collaboration with the Aulla Municipality's Sports and Tourism departments, the race is dedicated to those who love endurance and adrenaline, set against a stunning backdrop between the town center and the surrounding hills.
The event follows a sprint distance format, consisting of three consecutive stages: an initial 5 km run, a 20 km cycling leg, and a final 2.5 km run, for a total of 27.5 kilometers. The race is sanctioned by the Italian Triathlon Federation (FITRI) and awards Silver rank points, reflecting the event's organizational quality and competitive value.
The first running stage winds through the heart of Aulla, following the route of the historic "Ciamptada," with laps covering Viale Resistenza, Viale Lunigiana, and Via XXV Aprile. The cycling stage takes place on a hilly route with a total elevation gain of approximately 270 meters and two challenging climbs toward the Quercia sports center. The final run brings athletes back to Piazza Gramsci, where the finish line is located in front of the Town Hall.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the Lunigiana Sprint Duathlon was created with a strong focus on promoting the region: bringing athletes and fans to Aulla means showcasing Lunigianaโa land of castles, medieval villages, and traditions at the gateway to the Apuan Alps. The event is part of the national FITRI calendar and represents a new milestone for Apuan sports and sports tourism in this part of Tuscany.
