Great music in the unusual places of Bassa Romagna
The Lugo Music Festival is one of the most original musical events in Emilia-Romagna. Founded in 2017 on the idea of violinist Matteo Penazzi, who is still its artistic director, the festival has made its choice of locations its distinctive feature: instead of the usual theaters, it brings music into Romanesque churches, former power plants, historical monuments, parks, and often little-known or forgotten courtyards. Each concert thus becomes an opportunity to rediscover a corner of the territory.
The heart of the festival is Lugo, a town in Bassa Romagna in the province of Ravenna, but the program extends to surrounding municipalities: Sant'Agata sul Santerno, Alfonsine, and the hamlets of Santa Maria in Fabriago and Voltana. Among the most beloved venues are the Monument to Francesco Baracca, the former Enel Power Plant, the Pieve di Campanile in Santa Maria in Fabriago, and the evocative Ephemeral Labyrinth of Alfonsine.
The festival is designed to bring together different languages without barriers: classical and chamber music, European and avant-garde jazz, electronic music, world music, and interdisciplinary projects that combine music, circus, and theater for families. The most anticipated events are the famous sunrise concerts, which attract hundreds of spectators at the first light of day.
Now firmly established between June and July, the Lugo Music Festival has become a reference point for lovers of cultured and curious music throughout Romagna. The quality of the artists hosted, the care in choosing the venues, and the intimate and welcoming atmosphere make it an experience unlike any major city festival.
The tenth edition of the Lugo Music Festival marks an important milestone for the festival conceived by Matteo Penazzi. Ten concerts in as many evocative locations in Bassa Romagna, from Lugo to Sant'Agata sul Santerno, from Santa Maria in Fabriago to Alfonsine. The program intertwines classical and chamber music, European jazz, solo piano, and projects for families, confirming the festival's vocation to make different genres dialogue in unusual spaces.
Lugo can be reached by car from the A14 bis (Lugo exit) or the San Vitale state road; by train on the Castel BologneseโRavenna line (Lugo station). The concert venues are spread across the municipalities of Bassa Romagna, often reachable by car in a few minutes.
Tickets for paid concerts are available online at Vivaticket. Some events, such as workshops and family activities, are free. Advance booking is recommended for the most popular concerts.
