The Christmas exhibition of artisan nativity scenes in the village of Suio, Castelforte
The Lower Lazio Nativity Scene Exhibition is one of the most heartfelt initiatives in the Christmas calendar of Castelforte, a town in the province of Latina, in southern Lazio. The exhibition takes place in the village of Suio, at the parish hall of the Santa Maria del Buon Rimedio church, transforming community spaces for an entire month into a gallery dedicated to the art of the nativity—an ancient tradition rooted in centuries of popular devotion across Southern Italy.
The exhibition is organized into several sections, designed to showcase different styles and perspectives:
The nativity scene is more than just an artistic object; it is a symbol of shared identity. In Suio, the exhibition becomes a meeting point for families, artisans, and visitors, set in an intimate and authentically festive atmosphere. The initiative is driven by the commitment of the Santa Maria del Buon Rimedio parish and is part of a broader Christmas program promoted by the Municipality of Castelforte, which includes living nativity scenes, concerts, markets, and children's entertainment.
The exhibition is supported by the historic Italian Association of Nativity Scene Friends (AIAP), the Province of Latina, the XVII Mountain Community, the Municipality of Castelforte, and the Pro Loco, with the collaboration of the Plotino Cultural Association. This support highlights the cultural and identity-based value of the exhibition for the entire Gulf of Gaeta and Lower Lazio region.
The exhibition traditionally opens on December 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and remains open until January 6th, the Feast of the Epiphany, accompanying visitors throughout the holiday season. Admission is free, offering an experience open to everyone, from local residents to tourists visiting the area.
The edition hosted in Suio, a village in Castelforte, took place from December 8, 2025, to January 6, 2026, in the parish hall of Santa Maria del Buon Rimedio (Suio Forma). The inauguration coincided with the opening of the municipality's Christmas event calendar and the lighting of the decorations in Piazza San Giovanni Paolo II.
The exhibition was open Monday to Saturday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with free admission. Alongside the exhibition, the Christmas program featured a living nativity scene in the historic center (December 26) and a Christmas concert at the Santa Maria del Buon Rimedio church in Suio Forma (December 27).
