The Loro Ciuffenna Carnival in Piazza Matteotti, featuring costumes, music, and traditional sweets
The Loro Ciuffenna Carnival is an annual winter event that transforms the village of Loro Ciuffenna, in the province of Arezzo, into a vibrant open-air celebration. Located in the heart of the Valdarno area, in one of Tuscany's most picturesque spotsโcomplete with an ancient working watermill and the Ciuffenna stream flowing through the centerโthe community gathers in Piazza Matteotti to celebrate Carnival with costumes, music, and traditional flavors.
The event kicks off in the afternoon, starting at 3:00 PM, when the main town square fills with colors, confetti, and streamers. Children and adults in costume parade, dance, and enjoy the music in the simple, festive atmosphere that defines traditional Tuscan village celebrations.
The highlight of the day is the costume contest: the most original and creative costumes are awarded prizes, with categories for both individuals and groups. Participation is free and open to everyone, making it the perfect opportunity for families, children, and groups of friends to let their imagination run wild.
No celebration would be complete without the delicious treats prepared by the Pro Loco of Loro Ciuffenna food stalls. The stars of the show are the classic Tuscan carnival sweets:
To ensure safety and respect for the space, the use of spray foam is prohibited during the event, while confetti and streamers remain the main festive accessories.
Organized by the Pro Loco with the patronage of the Municipality of Loro Ciuffenna, the Loro Ciuffenna Carnival is a genuine, family-friendly event designed to showcase the historic center and strengthen community bonds. Along with other carnival initiatives in the Valdarno area, it offers a chance to discover an authentic corner of Tuscany away from the major tourist crowds, filled with popular traditions, great food, and local warmth.
