The Living Nativity of Cattolica Eraclea, in the province of Agrigento, is one of the most cherished Christmas events in the Sicilian hinterland. Set in the picturesque Colli Corti district, in the town's historic center, the event reconstructs ancient Bethlehem among the alleys, stairways, and courtyards of the old quarter, illuminated by lanterns and torches that create an authentic and intimate atmosphere.

Workshops, trades, and folk traditions

Along the route, dozens of costumed actors animate scenes of daily life from two thousand years ago. You will encounter the cobbler, the baker, the carpenter, the blacksmith, the farrier, and shepherds busy working wool and making cheese, while local products are offered for tasting in the inns. There is no shortage of bagpipers and storytellers, whose melodies accompany visitors toward the Nativity stable, the spiritual heart of the entire representation.

The procession of the Three Wise Men

The procession starts from the Church of Purgatorio and reaches the Church of the Rosary, accompanied by a musical group, before continuing toward the stable for the tribute to the Baby Jesus. It is a ritual that involves the entire community and gives the nativity scene a strong sense of identity and religious significance.
