The Liberation Day Festival in Fornacette is one of the most beloved civic events in the Valdera region. Every April 25th, the village of Fornacette, in the Municipality of Calcinaia (Province of Pisa, Tuscany), transforms into a vibrant hub of popular celebration centered around Piazza della Resistenza, which hosts the historic Liberation Big Concert promoted by the 25 Aprile Committee.
The event combines two spirits: the official commemoration of the Liberation from Nazi-fascism and a long evening of free concerts that attracts hundreds of people from across the Valdera area and the province of Pisa every year.
The April 25th schedule
Celebrations kick off in the morning with an official parade through the town streets, led by the authorities of Calcinaia. Along the route, laurel wreaths are laid at monuments dedicated to the Resistance and the fallen, with commemorative stops in both the main town and the village of Fornacette.
At noon, the traditional community lunch takes place at Parco della Fornace, a convivial moment that leads the community into the afternoon festivities.
The Big Concert in Piazza della Resistenza
The beating heart of the day is the afternoon and evening Big Concert in Piazza della Resistenza. The stage hosts a rotating lineup of bands and DJs ranging from reggae to folk, ska to jazz-swing, featuring notable names from the Italian independent music scene over the years. Surrounding the square are craft markets, a food court, and various gastronomic stalls.
A Valdera tradition
Born to keep the memory of the Resistance alive, the festival has grown into a landmark event for the entire community of Calcinaia and neighboring towns. The combination of civic commitment, free admission, and high-quality musical programming makes it one of the most defining events in the province of Pisa.

Fornacette Liberation Day Festival — edition 2026
The 21st edition of the Liberation Day Festival in Fornacette was held on Saturday, April 25th, 2026, in Piazza della Resistenza, organized by the 25 Aprile Committee with the patronage of the Municipality of Calcinaia and the Tuscany Region. The day combined the memory of the Liberation with a long evening of free live music.
From the morning, official commemorations were held by authorities at the Municipal Palace of Calcinaia, with wreath-laying at local monuments, followed by the community lunch at Parco della Fornace. In the afternoon, the stalls opened, followed by the Big Concert in the square.

Getting there
Fornacette is a village in the Municipality of Calcinaia (PI), well-connected to the FI-PI-LI highway. By car, it can be reached from the Pontedera or Cascina exits; the nearest train station is Pontedera-Casciana Terme, on the Florence-Pisa line.
Admission and dining
Admission to the Big Concert in Piazza della Resistenza is free. Craft stalls, bars, and a food court are available on-site. Reservations are generally required for the community lunch at Parco della Fornace.
