About Lemon Festival

Every summer, in the heart of Ferragosto, the small seaside village of Trappeto celebrates its most iconic product with the Lemon Festival. Along the Lungomare San Giovanni Paolo II, overlooking the Gulf of Castellammare, exhibition stands offer tastings of local specialties infused with the area's citrus, while parades of traditional Sicilian carts and folk groups bring the evenings to life with group dances and traditional music. A genuine, family-friendly, and free event organized by the Municipality to showcase an agricultural excellence grown using traditional methods.

A festival dedicated to Trappeto's yellow gold

The Lemon Festival is one of the most beloved events of the summer in Trappeto, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Palermo overlooking the Gulf of Castellammare in Sicily. The event celebrates the lemon, a historic agricultural product of the region that local farmers continue to cultivate using traditional, almost artisanal methods, and which has always been a symbol of island identity, celebrated in Sicilian art and literature.

Where and when

The festival takes place on the Lungomare San Giovanni Paolo II, the town's open-air living room facing the sea. Part of the Estate Trappetese (Trappeto Summer) calendar, the festival falls during the peak of Ferragosto, when the village is bustling with vacationers and residents, and the seafront becomes the hub of evening life.

What to expect

The program blends taste, tradition, and entertainment. Along the promenade, exhibition and tasting stands are set up, featuring local specialties whose flavors are enhanced by the scent and aroma of Trappeto lemons. The evenings are enlivened by folk performances, music, and entertainment:

  • Tastings of local products and regional specialties;
  • the evocative traveling parade of Sicilian carts, a symbol of the island's craftsmanship and popular culture;
  • performances by folk groups, including Cocciu D'amuri and Annacamuni Picciotti;
  • group dances and folk music to close the evenings on the seafront.

A local event

The Lemon Festival is organized by the Municipality of Trappeto, with the support of the Regional Department of Agriculture, with the aim of promoting the commercialization of a product grown using traditional and organic methods and boosting the tourism image of the town, which has a strong seaside vocation, especially in the summer months. Admission is free, and the family-friendly format makes the festival a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic Sicilian seaside village far from the major tourist circuits.

Lemon Festival โ€” edition 2026

The Trappeto Lemon Festival is expected to return in the summer of 2026 as the traditional Ferragosto event included in the Estate Trappetese calendar. At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced by the Municipality; in previous years, the festival has been held in mid-August on the Lungomare San Giovanni Paolo II, featuring tastings of local products, parades of Sicilian carts, and folk performances. The final program will be announced closer to the event.

The 2026 edition of the Lemon Festival in Trappeto has not yet been officially scheduled. The event, organized by the Municipality as part of the Estate Trappetese, traditionally takes place during the Ferragosto period on the Lungomare San Giovanni Paolo II.
