The village of Presicce lights up for Valentine's Day with poetry, illuminations, and underground oil mills

In the heart of lower Salento, the historic center of Presicce—part of the municipality of Presicce-Acquarica in the province of Lecce—dresses in light every February for Le Vie dell'Amore. This widespread event celebrates Valentine's Day by turning alleys, courtyards, and squares into a romantic walking path. Recognized as one of the 'Most Beautiful Villages in Italy,' Presicce offers an exceptional backdrop: noble palaces, Baroque churches, and, above all, the famous underground oil mills carved into the rock, which become stops on an emotional itinerary.
The experience is divided into three themed paths, each with its own atmosphere. Cupid's Road is designed as a path vibrant with passion and romance; Shakespeare's Road brings the immortal loves of literature to life through verses and eternal sighs; and the Rainbow Road celebrates love in all its shades, in an embrace of color and inclusivity. Light installations, curated in collaboration with Southern Italian lighting masters, guide visitors from stop to stop, leading to the central hypogeum in Piazza del Popolo and the Ducal Palace with its hanging gardens.
Along the way, the village comes alive with Valentine's craft markets, live music, art exhibitions, and guided tours of the underground oil mills—silent witnesses to the secrets and stories of bygone days. The experience thus combines the discovery of Presicce's historical and olive oil heritage with an intimate, dreamlike atmosphere, perfect for couples, families, and anyone wishing to stroll through a historic center made magical by lights.
The event was born from the collaboration between the municipal administration of Presicce-Acquarica, the Zarathustra cultural association, and numerous local volunteers, with artistic direction dedicated to the scenographic setup. Over the years, it has become one of the most anticipated winter events in the Salento region, attracting visitors from across the province of Lecce and Puglia thanks to its unique mix of tradition, art, and luminous charm.
The 2026 edition of Le Vie dell'Amore does not yet have an official program. Based on previous years, the event is expected to return to the historic center of Presicce around Valentine's Day, featuring its illuminated routes through the village alleys, craft markets, and visits to the underground oil mills. Information on dates, times, and installations will be updated as soon as it is released by the organizers.
