An August evening on the bridge, discovering Prepotto's native grape variety
In Prepotto, on the eastern border of Friuli, there is a bridge named after a wine: the Ponte dello Schioppettino, dedicated to the native grape variety that has made this area of the Valle del Judrio famous. It is here that every summer one of the most characteristic stops of Le Notti del Vino, the food and wine circuit of Città del Vino FVG, takes place.
Schioppettino is a native red from the Colli Orientali del Friuli, which was at risk of extinction and then revived thanks to the tenacity of the winemakers of Prepotto and Cialla. The evening on the bridge is dedicated to this wine, alongside other native wines and gastronomic excellences of the valley, in an event shared with neighboring Dolegna del Collio.
Before the tastings, the program includes a walk through the vineyards and along the Judrio river, a nature trail that tells the history and culture of the valley, including a visit to a historic border bunker. At sunset, the bridge comes alive with tasting stands from wineries and food stalls, in a convivial and evocative atmosphere, suspended between the hills on the border with Slovenia.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Prepotto with the Pro Loco and Italea, as part of Le Notti del Vino of Città del Vino FVG, with the support of the Region and PromoTurismoFVG. It is a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of wine-producing Friuli, far from the main tourist crowds.
For 2026, the Prepotto stop of Le Notti del Vino is expected in the usual August period, on the Ponte dello Schioppettino. The regional circuit of Città del Vino FVG is confirmed; the evening will maintain its tried-and-tested formula with the walk through the vineyards, tastings of Schioppettino and other wines from the Judrio Valley, and gastronomic stands. The precise date will be communicated by the Municipality of Prepotto.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. Based on recent editions, the day will include a walk through the vineyards and along the Judrio river in the late afternoon (with a visit to a historic bunker) and, from the evening (around 7:30 PM), the opening of the tasting stands on the bridge featuring Schioppettino and other native wines, accompanied by the valley's gastronomic specialties. It is advisable to consult the Città del Vino FVG website for the date and details.
