Floats, music, and performances along the Latina seafront

The Summer Carnival is the most successful gamble of the summer season in the Municipality of Latina, the capital of the province of the same name in southern Lazio. The concept is as simple as it is effective: take the traditional carnival imagery—allegorical floats, masks, confetti, and loud music—and move it from the cold of February to a July night on the seafront, where the public is already on holiday and the sea serves as a natural backdrop for the parade.
After a twelve-year absence, the event has returned to brighten up the Pontine coast and has become a permanent fixture in the summer calendar promoted by the Tourism Department, alongside the Notte Rosa and sunrise beach concerts. Its third edition, held on July 15, 2025, drew thousands of people, including residents, families, and tourists vacationing on the beaches of Latina.
The heart of the evening lies in the ten allegorical floats built by the Amici in Festa association, a local group that spends the entire year working on papier-mâché and motorized structures. The themes intentionally draw from cinema and cartoons to appeal to both children and parents who grew up watching television: Dragon Ball, Lilo & Stitch, Shrek, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Scooby Doo, Zig & Sharko, Joker, Oktoberfest, Mickey Mouse, and Moana.
The floats are not merely decorated platforms: each one carries a masked group that dances, throws confetti, and engages the public along the route. It is the classic Italian carnival tradition, adapted to the rhythm and atmosphere of a summer evening by the sea.
Alongside the parade, the evening features a program of live performances that occupy the squares and rest points along the route:
The format is that of a widespread festival: there is no single stage, but a succession of moments that the public encounters while walking along the coast.
The parade starts at Capoportiere and travels up the seafront to Piazzale dei Navigatori, crossing the most popular stretch of the Latina marina, home to beach clubs and kiosks. It is a wide, flat route, perfect for following the floats on foot from one end to the other without missing a thing. The start is generally set for 9:00 PM, when the heat has subsided and the lights on the floats begin to stand out against the blue of the sea.
Latina is a young city, founded in the 1930s in the reclaimed plains of the Agro Pontino, and its festive identity has been built more around the sea and summer than on a long historical tradition. The Summer Carnival is exactly that: a contemporary, popular, free festival that gives the seafront back to the residents and shows it to visitors in its most cheerful version. For those spending their holidays between Sabaudia, Circeo, and the Pontine beaches, it is the perfect opportunity for a different kind of evening just a few kilometers from their beach umbrella.
As a free, outdoor event designed around cartoon characters, the Summer Carnival is particularly suitable for children. However, it is worth holding their hands in the most crowded spots, especially when the floats are passing, and keeping in mind that the evening ends later than the usual bedtime for the little ones.
As of the writing of this page, there are no official communications from the Municipality of Latina regarding a new edition of the Summer Carnival on the seafront. The 2026 summer program published by the administration lists other events — the sunrise concerts of Immersioni Sonore, events in the coastal beach clubs, the musical review at the Museo Cambellotti — without mentioning the allegorical float parade at this time.
The 2025 edition, the third, was held on Tuesday, July 15, starting at 9:00 PM, departing from Capoportiere and arriving at Piazzale dei Navigatori. Those wishing to follow any potential announcement can consult the Municipality of Latina website and the Tourism Department's channels.
Latina seafront, the stretch between Capoportiere and Piazzale dei Navigatori (Latina Mare, about 8 km from the city center).
Free, no reservation required.
Wear comfortable shoes: the route is over a kilometer long and is best followed on foot. The area is full of kiosks and beach clubs where you can have dinner before the parade.
