Latin American music, dance, and gastronomy in the heart of the Madonie mountains
The Latin Festival Petralia is a major summer celebration dedicated to Latin American and Caribbean culture, held in Petralia Sottana, a stunning village within the Madonie Park, in the province of Palermo. For two days, the town's historic center—specifically Corso Paolo Agliata and the surrounding squares—fills with live music, folk dances, DJ sets, and the aromas of South American cuisine, creating a festive atmosphere that engages the entire municipality.
The program unfolds across several stages set up in the village's various squares: Piazzetta Municipio, Piazzetta Monumento, Piazza Finocchiaro Aprile, and Piazza Misericordia. The schedule features a mix of Latin music, salsa, samba, and jazz concerts, dance school performances, Caribbean and Brazilian dance workshops, and late-night DJ sets. Past editions have hosted world-class Latin music orchestras and quartets, salsa and Brazilian folk dance performances, and evenings dedicated to reggaeton and baile funk.
Along the village's main street, numerous food stalls offer traditional Latin American and Caribbean dishes, ranging from South American staples to island specialties. The festival is also family-friendly, featuring entertainment and activities for children.
Recognized as one of Italy's most beautiful villages, Petralia Sottana is a jewel in the heart of the Madonie. The Latin Festival is the perfect opportunity to explore its narrow alleys, historic churches, and panoramic mountain views, combining the preservation of local heritage with an open, international cultural offering. The event is organized by the Municipality of Petralia Sottana, Sicily, under the patronage of the Sicilian Region.
All Latin Festival Petralia events, including concerts and dance performances, are free. The festival is traditionally held in late August, when the cool climate of the Madonie makes it particularly pleasant to enjoy the village until late at night.
The Latin Festival Petralia returns in 2026 for its fourth edition, scheduled for August 21 and 22 in Petralia Sottana, in the province of Palermo. As in previous years, the festival will bring Corso Paolo Agliata and the village squares to life with Latin music concerts, dance performances, workshops, DJ sets, and food stalls dedicated to Latin American and Caribbean cuisine. Admission to all performances remains free. The full program for the 2026 edition, including the concert line-up and any special guests, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Petralia Sottana is located in the heart of the Madonie Park, in the province of Palermo. By car, it can be reached via the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway, taking the Tremonzelli or Scillato exit and continuing along the internal Madonie roads. The journey from Palermo takes about an hour and a half.
Admission to all festival events is free.
Performances continue until late at night: we recommend dressing appropriately for the cool mountain evenings. Numerous accommodations and farmhouses are available in Petralia Sottana and the surrounding Madonie villages.
