Float parades, masked groups, and street parties in Latiano

The Latiano Carnival is one of the most cherished winter traditions in Latiano, a town in the Salento region of the Brindisi province, in the heart of Puglia. Every year, between late February and early March, the town's streets transform into a cheerful open-air stage, where allegorical floats, masked groups, music, and vibrant colors bring joy and entertainment to families, children, and visitors of all ages.
The program spans several days: the float and mask parades set off from the center—including Via della Libertà and the Campo Sportivo area—winding through the town in a long, festive procession. The event concludes with a party in Piazza Umberto I, the heart of town life, where music and entertainment keep the Carnival spirit going until the very last piece of confetti falls.
The Latiano Carnival began as a grassroots initiative: it is promoted by the Municipality of Latiano, through the Department of Sport, in collaboration with local associations Lu Sud ca Bruscia and La Terra. Local groups and volunteers are the ones who build the floats and prepare the costumes, breathing life into a tradition that renews itself year after year and involves the entire Latiano community.
Admission is free and open to all: the Latiano Carnival is designed especially for families and children, who can dress up, dance, and have fun along the town's streets. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience Latiano in its most festive mood and to discover the hospitality and folk traditions of the Salento region in Puglia.
Located between Brindisi and Lecce, Latiano is a town rich in history and rural traditions. The Carnival is part of a calendar of festivals that marks the town's year and represents one of the most anticipated moments of social gathering, bringing entire generations out into the streets in a spirit of joy and participation.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Latiano Carnival have not yet been announced. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to return to Latiano during the Carnival period, between late February and early March, featuring the traditional parades of allegorical floats and masked groups through the town center, followed by the final party in Piazza Umberto I. The official program will be published by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
