Two days of music, food, and conviviality at Coccobrillo, welcoming the summer on Lake Massaciuccoli
As May draws to a close and summer approaches, the lakeside village of Massaciuccoli, a hamlet of the Massarosa municipality in the province of Lucca, gathers for the Late Spring Festival. It is a simple, sincere event, the kind that defines the charm of Tuscan village festivals: people meet, eat together, listen to music, and toast to the arrival of the warmer season.
The heart of the festival is the Coccobrillo Multipurpose Center, located on Via Pietra a Padule and managed by the Teseo Tesei Autonomous Blood and Organ Donor Group of Massaciuccoli. The same venue that hosts the historic Fish Festival a few weeks earlier welcomes this two-day celebration featuring long tables, good food, and live music. The expansive outdoor areas make the festival ideal for the mild evenings of late May.
The festival is also the perfect excuse to visit one of the most evocative corners of Versilia and northern Tuscany. Massaciuccoli overlooks the lake of the same name, part of the Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli Regional Park and beloved by Giacomo Puccini, who composed some of his most famous works here. A short walk from the town center, you will find the remains of a Roman villa and an archaeological site overlooking the water, as well as the Chiarone Nature Reserve with its boardwalks for birdwatching among the reeds.
Behind the festival is the volunteer work of the Teseo Tesei blood donor group, the same association that has been animating the hamlet's community life with its events since 1971. Participating in the Late Spring Festival means indirectly supporting a community-rooted organization in the Massarosa area, made up of volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to the community.
The 2026 Late Spring Festival in Massaciuccoli enlivened the penultimate weekend of May at the Coccobrillo, the same center that had hosted the Fish Festival a few weeks earlier. The program combined good food and music in a village festival atmosphere dedicated to conviviality.
