An evening run around one of Italy's cleanest lakes
The Lake Mergozzo Running Tour is one of the most beloved sporting events of the summer in the town of Mergozzo, in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, in northern Piedmont. It is a non-competitive fun run and walk open to everyone, held on a warm July evening around one of the smallest and most fascinating lakes in the area, famous for its crystal-clear waters.
The approximately 7 km course winds around the lake and follows the scenic Sentiero Azzurro, which connects the Montorfano road to the historic village of Mergozzo. It is an easy route, fully marked with signs and ribbons, suitable for all fitness levels: from experienced runners to families looking for an evening stroll in a setting of rare natural beauty. For logistical reasons, the course may undergo minor variations from year to year, while maintaining its scenic charm.
The start and finish lines are set up in Piazza Cavour, the lakeside square that serves as the heart of village life. The evening start time, set for 8:00 PM, treats participants to the magic of the sunset and the first lights of the evening reflecting on the water. At the end of the race, refreshments are provided for all participants in a festive atmosphere that combines sport, tourism, and socializing. Over the years, the event has surpassed twenty editions, establishing itself as a classic in the Ossola running calendar, capable of attracting athletes from all over Italy and abroad.
Organized by Dimensione Sport, the Running Tour is part of a broader program of summer events on Lake Mergozzo, which also includes the famous lake swimming crossing. The race is a perfect opportunity to discover the village of Mergozzo, its narrow streets, the lakefront, and the natural heritage of northern Piedmont, in an evening that brings together sports enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
The route, approximately 7 km long, develops around Lake Mergozzo, crossing the scenic Sentiero Azzurro between the Montorfano road and the village. For the 2026 edition, the track is slightly longer than in previous years due to the inability to pass through the Continental Campsite, but it retains all the scenic charm of the event. The event is fully marked with signs and ribbons and is suitable for all fitness levels.
Approximately 7 km route around the lake along the Sentiero Azzurro, low difficulty and fully marked. As it is a non-competitive run, there is no official timing or competitive ranking.
Evening start at 8:00 PM with the sunset over the lake, scenic 7 km route along the Sentiero Azzurro, and final refreshments in Piazza Cavour. About 700 participants expected.
