The Inferno Night Trail, the race that lights up the night in Gravellona Toce

When darkness falls over the woods of the Cusio region, Gravellona Toce transforms into the stage for one of the most evocative sporting events on the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola running calendar. The Inferno Night Trail Memorial Priotto is a trail running race held entirely at night, with a headlamp as your only companion along trails that climb through chestnut groves and ridges. It is an event that ideally closes the summer mountain running season in this corner of Piedmont, just a few kilometers from Verbania.

A route between two lakes

Gravellona Toce occupies a strategic position in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, on a plain that stretches out not far from the confluence of the Strona stream into the Toce river, between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta. It is in this landscape of woods and hills, dominated by Monte Cerano and not far from Mottarone, that the race routes are set. The start takes place in Piazza della Resistenza, in the town center, before climbing onto the local trails, also crossing the nearby municipality of Casale Corte Cerro, which collaborates in the organization.

Two distances for every runner

The Inferno Night Trail traditionally offers two routes designed to accommodate both experienced athletes and those looking to get into night trail running. The long course measures approximately 14.5 kilometers with 850 meters of elevation gain, while the short course is around 8.5 kilometers with 400 meters of elevation gain. Running in the dark adds a unique technical and psychological component: navigating the woods guided only by the light of a headlamp makes every edition a true test of concentration and endurance.

Memorial Priotto and Trofeo Alberts

The event carries in its name the memory of Giacomo Priotto and also features the Trofeo Alberts, dedicated to a late organizer: two tributes that testify to the strong bond between the race and the local sports community. The event is organized by the Fight Club - Beerrunner Team together with the CAI section of Gravellona Toce and with the patronage of the municipal administrations of Gravellona Toce and Casale Corte Cerro.

The evening start from the town center, the sight of runners with their headlamps glowing among the trees, and the finish line cheered on by the public make this September evening a highly anticipated event throughout the Cusio area and Lake Maggiore.
