A festival of taste and tradition in the medieval village of Rometta
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
La Via dei Sapori is the food and wine festival that brings the historic center of Rometta Superiore, in the province of Messina, to life every summer. For one evening, the alleys and squares of the village fill with aromas, stalls, lights, and music, turning the entire town into a grand culinary trail to be explored on foot, stop by stop.
The heart of the event is the celebration of the region's gastronomic traditions. Along the streets of the center, artisan and hobbyist stalls wind through the village, alongside stands dedicated to local products where you can sample specialties and discover the flavors of Rometta's cuisine. Street food stands complete the experience, turning an evening stroll into a true roaming tasting tour.
La Via dei Sapori is about more than just food: it captures the atmosphere of a traditional village fair, with folk groups accompanying the evening, live music, and inflatable games that make the event perfect for families with children. Admission is free, and the event, organized by the Associazione Globus with the support of the local community, has become a staple of the Rometta summer calendar.
What makes La Via dei Sapori unique is its setting. Rometta is a medieval village perched at an altitude of nearly 600 meters in the Peloritani Mountains; it was the last Byzantine stronghold in Sicily to fall under Arab rule after a long siege that ended in 965. Walking through its alleys, Saracen caves, and ancient churches while sampling local products means combining the discovery of historical heritage with the pleasures of the table, in the heart of the Province of Messina, Sicily.
The dates for the 2026 edition of La Via dei Sapori have not yet been announced. Based on previous editions, the event is usually held in August in the historic center of Rometta Superiore, featuring stalls with local products, street food, crafts, folk groups, and children's games. The official program will be published by the Associazione Globus and on the village's social media channels closer to the event. We recommend checking Rometta's social media pages for updates.
