About La Via dei Sapori

Every summer, the historic center of Rometta Superiore—an ancient Byzantine village perched in the Peloritani Mountains—transforms into a journey of flavor and tradition with La Via dei Sapori. Along the village alleys, artisan and hobbyist stalls, local food tastings, and street food mingle with folk groups, music, and children's games. This free popular festival, organized by the Associazione Globus, has been drawing visitors from across the province of Messina for over seventeen years.

La Via dei Sapori: Taste in the heart of Rometta

La Via dei Sapori is the food and wine festival that brings the historic center of Rometta Superiore, in the province of Messina, to life every summer. For one evening, the alleys and squares of the village fill with aromas, stalls, lights, and music, turning the entire town into a grand culinary trail to be explored on foot, stop by stop.

A journey through local products and craftsmanship

The heart of the event is the celebration of the region's gastronomic traditions. Along the streets of the center, artisan and hobbyist stalls wind through the village, alongside stands dedicated to local products where you can sample specialties and discover the flavors of Rometta's cuisine. Street food stands complete the experience, turning an evening stroll into a true roaming tasting tour.

  • Tastings of local products from the Peloritani area
  • Artisan and hobbyist stalls
  • Street food areas along the route
  • Folk groups, music, and entertainment
  • Inflatable games and activities for children

A festival for the whole family

La Via dei Sapori is about more than just food: it captures the atmosphere of a traditional village fair, with folk groups accompanying the evening, live music, and inflatable games that make the event perfect for families with children. Admission is free, and the event, organized by the Associazione Globus with the support of the local community, has become a staple of the Rometta summer calendar.

Rometta, the last Byzantine stronghold in Sicily

What makes La Via dei Sapori unique is its setting. Rometta is a medieval village perched at an altitude of nearly 600 meters in the Peloritani Mountains; it was the last Byzantine stronghold in Sicily to fall under Arab rule after a long siege that ended in 965. Walking through its alleys, Saracen caves, and ancient churches while sampling local products means combining the discovery of historical heritage with the pleasures of the table, in the heart of the Province of Messina, Sicily.
