Four autumn Sundays filled with flavors, folklore, and traditions in a Peloritani mountain village
The Ottobrata Romettese, also known as October Festival, is a food, wine, and folklore event that transforms the historic center of Rometta Superiore—a picturesque village in the Peloritani Mountains within the municipality of Rometta, near Messina (Sicily)—into a vibrant hub of flavors and traditions every year. For four Sundays in October, from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, the town's streets and squares fill with craft stalls, food and wine stands, music, and performances.
The heart of the festival lies in the tastings of typical Sicilian products and local traditional dishes, prepared and served at stalls set up throughout the village. Specialties you can sample include:
The Ottobrata features a rich entertainment program: folk groups perform along the village streets, while the afternoons are filled with live music and the evenings showcase cabaret with Sicilian comedians and artists. The performances rotate each Sunday, offering a fresh lineup every week. In previous years, the event has hosted local folk groups and well-known names in regional comedy.
The event is designed as a family-friendly festival: children can enjoy baby dance sessions, games, and the iconic little train that travels through the historic center. Visitors can also take advantage of guided tours of the village, organized by the Pro Loco, to discover one of the most fascinating spots in the Peloritani, known for its historical heritage and views of the Strait. A shuttle service is available to facilitate access to the historic center.
Established in 2017, the Ottobrata Romettese has grown year after year to become one of the most anticipated autumn events in the Messina area. The event is organized by the Rymtà Haya Cultural Association (Rometta Vive), with the free patronage of the Municipality of Rometta and the Metropolitan City of Messina. The goal is to promote the local area, its traditions, and its products, offering residents and visitors a chance to slow down and rediscover the authentic spirit of a Sicilian village festival.
The 2026 edition of the Ottobrata Romettese will return to liven up the village of Rometta Superiore for four consecutive Sundays: October 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM. As per tradition, visitors can expect stalls featuring typical Sicilian products, food and wine tastings, folk music, cabaret shows, guided tours of the historic center, and family entertainment. The full program for each Sunday, including artists and guests, will be announced by the Rymtà Haya Association closer to the event.
Rometta is located in the Peloritani Mountains, about 30 km from Messina. By car, take the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway (Rometta exit) and continue towards Rometta Superiore. During the event, a shuttle service is usually available to reach the historic center.
The event takes place on Sundays in October, from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Admission to the festival is free; tastings and products at the stalls are available for purchase.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking through the historic village streets. For updated schedules and the program for each Sunday, it is best to follow the Rymtà Haya Association's channels.
