A grand table setting along Via Dolzino
In Chiavenna, in the province of Sondrio, the central Via Dolzino is the main artery of the historic center. On an early June evening, it becomes the stage for La Tavolata, a large collective outdoor dinner that brings the community together around the gastronomic tradition of Valchiavenna.
The stars of the evening are the gnocchetti chiavennaschi, also known as "white pizzoccheri": a typical dish of the valley, different from the more famous Valtellina pizzoccheri, which tells the culinary identity of this corner of Lombardy. The long table setting allows you to taste them in the most authentic way, sitting elbow to elbow amidst the facades of the village.
La Tavolata in Via Dolzino is one of the events that liven up the Chiavenna summer calendar. More than just a gastronomic event, it is a community ritual: an entire city sitting down to eat at the table in its main street, sharing the flavors of Valchiavenna in a popular festive atmosphere.
The 2026 edition of La Tavolata in Via Dolzino is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 in Chiavenna. The village's main street transforms into a single long outdoor table dedicated to gnocchetti chiavennaschi, the characteristic white pizzoccheri of Valchiavenna, shared among residents and visitors in the heart of the historic center.
