Short films, documentaries, and emerging Sicilian cinematic talent in Trabia
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
La Sicilia nel Cinema is a summer film festival held in Trabia, a charming coastal town in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, in the heart of Sicily. Founded to champion the island's independent cinema, the event brings short films, documentaries, and debut works by young Sicilian directors to the big screen. These films, often overlooked by mainstream audiences, capture the complexity and richness of the region with remarkable authenticity.
The heart of the festival is the evocative Villa Falcone e Borsellino, located at Corso Giuseppe La Masa 165, where the screen lights up at 9:00 PM each evening. Admission is completely free, inviting everyone to enjoy the screenings, which are interspersed with discussions featuring directors, screenwriters, and actors. The evenings are curated by artistic director Beppe Manno, the driving force behind the event, who personally selects the program.
La Sicilia nel Cinema is more than just a screening venue; it is a meeting place for authors, actors, and the public, as well as an opportunity to honor the protagonists of emerging Sicilian cinema. Each edition presents awards to directors, screenwriters, and performers who have distinguished themselves in portraying Sicily, ranging from suburban narratives to documentaries on the island's memory and traditions.
Promoted by the Associazione Eventi e Cultura with the support of the Sicilian Regional Assembly and the Municipality of Trabia, the festival has quickly become a highly anticipated fixture of the cultural summer in the province of Palermo. Its free, open-air format, combined with the high quality of the selected works, makes it an experience for everyoneโfrom cinephiles and the curious to families and tourists vacationing along the Sicilian Tyrrhenian coast.
The dates for the 2026 edition of La Sicilia nel Cinema have not yet been announced. Based on previous years, the festival is expected to take place during the summer at the Villa Falcone e Borsellino in Trabia, near Palermo, maintaining its traditional format of free open-air screenings dedicated to emerging Sicilian cinema.
The program, including selected works, guests, and awards, will be published by the Associazione Eventi e Cultura closer to the event date. This page will be updated as soon as official information becomes available.
