The grand concert of Abruzzo's folk traditions at the Stadio del Mare in Pescara
La Notte dei Serpenti is one of the largest musical events of the Abruzzo summer: a true major concert with free admission held at the Stadio del Mare in Pescara, in the heart of the Adriatic city. Conceived and directed by Maestro Enrico Melozzi, a composer, conductor, and cellist from Teramo, the event was born with the aim of rediscovering and reinterpreting the musical and folk heritage of Abruzzo, bringing it to a national stage.
The heart of the show is the fusion of traditional Abruzzese songs, the grand orchestra conducted by Melozzi, and contemporary sounds. Ancient melodies, choirs, folk dances, and modern arrangements intertwine in a single, grand collective narrative. The event's imagery is deeply rooted in the region's culture: the cult of Saint Dominic and the figure of the Goddess Angizia, with the snake as an ancestral and spiritual symbol, evoke the famous tradition of the snake handlers of Cocullo and the archaic soul of the Marsica and Abruzzo lands.
Over the years, La Notte dei Serpenti has featured great names of Italian music alongside local artists, drawing tens of thousands of spectators to the Stadio del Mare. The show is recorded live and broadcast in prime time on Rai networks, becoming an exceptional showcase for Abruzzo, its locations, and its traditions. The event is supported by the Abruzzo Region, in collaboration with the municipalities of Pescara and Teramo, and involves local choirs and choral associations.
While the Stadio del Mare in Pescara serves as the stage, the preparation of the event also involves the city of Teramo, which hosts rehearsals open to the public in the weeks leading up to the concert. La Notte dei Serpenti is thus much more than a concert: it is a cultural journey that unites two cities and the entire region around the rediscovery of their musical identity.
On Saturday, July 25, 2026, the Stadio del Mare in Pescara will host the fourth edition of La Notte dei Serpenti, the free major concert conceived and directed by Maestro Enrico Melozzi. For the first time, the hosting duties are entrusted to Elettra Lamborghini, who was previously a guest in earlier editions.
The 2026 musical journey is once again inspired by the cult of Saint Dominic and the Goddess Angizia, celebrating the snake as an ancestral and spiritual symbol of Abruzzese culture. The stage design is signed by scenographer and lighting designer Paolo Calafiore, with a setup based on the encounter between light, digital technologies, and video mapping; the television direction is handled by Salvatore Perfetto.
The preparation of the event involves the city of Teramo, which will host rehearsals open to the public from July 6 to 19. The lineup of guest artists will be revealed progressively. The 2026 edition will be broadcast in prime time on Rai 1 on September 5, 2026.
