The Turin stop of Elisabetta Sgarbi's festival, blending literature, art, and music
La Milanesiana is one of Italy's most prestigious and long-running cultural festivals. Conceived and directed by Elisabetta Sgarbi, it is a traveling event that brings together literature, music, cinema, science, art, philosophy, law, and comics. Since 2000, it has visited various iconic cities and landmarks, and one of its most anticipated stops is the Piedmontese leg at the Reggia di Venaria Reale, in the municipality of Venaria Reale, near Turin. This Savoy residence, a UNESCO World Heritage baroque masterpiece, hosts a bespoke evening tailored to its monumental spaces each year.
The format of the Venaria stop is well-established and highly impactful. The evening begins in the Sale delle Arti with the opening of an exhibition dedicated to a master of drawing, often a leading figure in Italian comics or illustration. Following this, the evocative Cappella di Sant'Uberto, designed by Filippo Juvarra, hosts a performance blending spoken word, theater, and live music, featuring prominent figures from the Italian cultural scene.
As with every edition, La Milanesiana revolves around a central theme that runs through all the festival's events, providing unity to the various artistic languages. The Venaria stop offers the Piedmontese public the chance to meet writers, illustrators, musicians, and intellectuals in an intimate and stunning setting. The dialogue between the arts, the festival's hallmark, finds an ideal backdrop here among the frescoed halls and the gardens of the Reggia.
A distinctive feature of the Venaria stop is free admission with mandatory reservation, making high culture accessible to everyone. The evening is organized by La Venaria Reale in collaboration with La Milanesiana, confirming the increasingly strong bond between the festival and the Piedmont region. For those who love auteur comics, music, and encounters with the protagonists of the Italian cultural scene, this is an unmissable occasion in the heart of the Turin province.
Exhibitions are held in the Sale delle Arti, and performances take place in the Cappella di Sant'Uberto.
The Reggia di Venaria can be reached from Turin via the Venaria Express shuttle or GTT public transport. By car, take the recommended exit from the Turin ring road towards Venaria; there are large parking areas nearby.
Admission to the La Milanesiana evening is free with mandatory reservation, generally via Eventbrite. Places are limited: booking well in advance is recommended.
