When algorithms meet art: the first artistic competition in the City of Rivoli
The Inverse Abstraction Exhibition brings together the works from the 1st Artistic Competition of the City of Rivoli, located in the province of Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Rivoli as part of the Rivoli City of Art project, proposes an original creative challenge: to overturn the very concept of abstraction. While traditional abstract art starts from reality to reach an abstract form, here the process is reversed.
The starting point is a set of random lines generated by an algorithm created by local Rivoli artist Fulvio Bresciani. Each participant is given the same abstract graphic base: the task is to discover and reveal real, recognizable forms within those lines, creating a complete subject without adding any further graphic marks. The result is a fascinating encounter between mathematical sequences and human creativity, where each artist interprets the same starting point in a unique way.
The participants' canvases are displayed in the halls of the Museo Civico Casa del Conte Verde, at Via Fratelli Piol 8, one of the most important historic buildings in Rivoli. The collective exhibition allows the public to compare the different solutions born from the same grid of lines, including the works of the winners and those receiving special mentions during the awards ceremony that concluded the first phase of the competition.
The project is the result of collaboration with the city's art workshops that animate the cultural life of Rivoli: E20 d'Arte al Castello by Fulvio Bresciani, the Galleria Belle Époque by Diego Sestero, the Imparalarte atelier by Amelia Argenziano, and the Atelier di Pittura Lud Chamorro Art by Luisa Maria Diaz Chamorro. The exhibition confirms Rivoli's vocation as a dynamic city of art, capable of combining traditional painting craftsmanship with new technologies.
The initiative is sponsored by the Piedmont Region and the Metropolitan City of Turin, with the support of local entities. Included in the annual exhibition calendar of the Casa del Conte Verde, the event encourages citizen participation in cultural life and highlights the commitment of local art workshops.
Rivoli is located west of Turin. By car, take the Rivoli exit from the Turin Tangenziale. By public transport, it can be reached from the center of Turin via GTT services (metro to the Fermi terminus in Collegno, then bus to Rivoli). The Museo Civico Casa del Conte Verde is in the heart of the historic center, at Via Fratelli Piol 8.
Wednesday-Friday 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM; Saturday and Sunday 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Inauguration (vernissage) Friday, June 5, 2026, at 6:00 PM.
Free entry for the entire duration of the exhibition.
