About La Fera

La Fera is the historic fair of Latiano, in the province of Brindisi, which transforms the town center into a grand showcase of local crafts and commerce every year between September and October. Established in 1866, it is one of the oldest fairs in Puglia, drawing hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors to the Salento region. Sounds, flavors, and traditions blend along the streets and in Piazza Umberto I, featuring free concerts, workshops, cultural meetings, and the famous Sagra ti li Stacchioddi organized by the Pro Loco. It is an event that unites rural heritage, Salento gastronomy, and popular celebration.

La Fera, the historic fair of Latiano

La Fera is the most iconic event in Latiano, a town in the province of Brindisi, in the heart of the Salento region of Puglia. Established by a prefectural decree in 1866, following a municipal council resolution in 1861 and provincial approval in 1865, it is one of the oldest fairs in Puglia and has been held continuously for over 150 years. Originally linked to the livestock, tool, and goods market, it has evolved over time into a grand community festival that marks the arrival of autumn.

A showcase of crafts and commerce

The Municipality of Latiano defines La Fera as a true showcase of local crafts and commerce. Hundreds of exhibitors from across Southern Italy set up along the town's streets and squares, with stalls dedicated to local products, handicrafts, clothing, and homeware. Officially recognized as an October Fair of regional importance, it maintains its popular character and its role as a meeting point for the entire Salento territory.

Sounds, flavors, and traditions

The "Sounds, Flavors, and Traditions" program accompanies the fair with a rich schedule of free-admission events. Piazza Umberto I hosts a succession of concerts, folk music performances, tributes to great Italian artists, author meetings, culinary workshops, and activities for families and children. Pizzica and Salento music blend with contemporary offerings, providing a vivid portrait of the town's culture.

The Sagra ti li Stacchioddi

The highlight of the festival is the Sagra ti li Stacchioddi, organized for over thirty years by the Pro Loco of Latiano: a celebration of handmade fresh pasta, the "stacchioddi" (the typical Puglian orecchiette), seasoned according to local rural tradition. It is an opportunity to rediscover the most authentic Salento gastronomy amidst aromas, flavors, and conviviality.

A heritage of the Latiano community

More than just a simple fair, La Fera represents a piece of collective identity for Latiano and the entire Brindisi province area. Strolling among the stalls, listening to music in the squares, and savoring traditional dishes means immersing oneself in a festival that has passed down memories, crafts, and flavors for generations in the heart of Puglia.
