The grand finale of the national pizza tour at Piazza di Siena
La Città della Pizza is the touring competition that shines a spotlight on the best emerging talents in the Italian art of pizza every year. After a national tour visiting several cities, the event culminates with the grand finale in Rome, hosted in the monumental setting of Piazza di Siena, inside Villa Borghese, in the Municipality of Rome, Lazio. The finale takes place on the last day of Vinòforum, the major Roman festival dedicated to wine and gourmet cuisine.
The competition rewards emerging pizza chefs who are renewing the tradition of Neapolitan pizza with passion and research. The selections take place in two stages: the first in Rome and the second in Milan. In each selection, contestants face two tests: a first round dedicated to a great classic, choosing between Margherita and Marinara, and a second where they present a personal creation that tests imagination, technique, and ingredient balance.
The six best pizza chefs earn their spot in the Roman finale at Piazza di Siena, where only one will claim the title. The jury evaluates appearance, aroma, dough, baking, balance, overall taste, and the choice of toppings.
The winner of the finale receives a prize worth 4,000 euros in products and services from partner companies, a tangible recognition that supports the professional growth of emerging pizza chefs. Beyond the prize, the showcase of Vinòforum and the presence of a jury of critics and master pizza chefs offer finalists valuable visibility in the national gastronomic landscape.
The choice of Piazza di Siena as the stage for the finale is no coincidence: the historic 19th-century hippodrome nestled in the greenery of Villa Borghese is one of Rome's most evocative locations. Here, during the evenings of Vinòforum, the public can stroll among thousands of wine labels, temporary restaurants, and events dedicated to gourmet pizza, experiencing the finale as the highlight of an entire week of taste.
The 2026 edition marks the tenth anniversary of La Città della Pizza. After the selections in Rome (May 4) and Milan (June 22), the national tour concludes with the grand finale at Piazza di Siena, at Villa Borghese, on September 13, 2026, on the final day of Vinòforum.
Six emerging pizza chefs are expected to compete: Maria Falcone (Maxim, Padua), Andrea Gambardella (Carlo Fiamma Pizza e Cantina, Amalfi), Francesco Pio Comune (Da Cesira, San Salvatore Telesino), Emanuele Rossi (Der Keller, Spigno Saturnia), as well as the winners of the Milan stage Vittorio Caradonio (Spunzillo e Lucariello, Turin), Gaetano De Rosa and Pietro Cirillo (CapVin, Bielefeld).
The jury is coordinated by journalists Luciano Pignataro and Luciana Squadrilli, joined by technical jurors Ciro Coppola and Davide Civitiello. The winner will receive a prize worth 4,000 euros in products and services from partner companies.
The finale of La Città della Pizza takes place on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Piazza di Siena, inside Villa Borghese, as the concluding event of Vinòforum (scheduled from September 7 to 13).
The finale is hosted in the context of Vinòforum, with over 3,200 wine labels, temporary restaurants, and dinners dedicated to gourmet pizza.
Piazza di Siena is located inside Villa Borghese, in the Pinciano district of Rome. By metro: Line A, Spagna stop (Villa Borghese exit) or Flaminio. Numerous bus lines serve the Porta Pinciana and Galoppatoio area. Access by car is discouraged: the area is a restricted traffic zone and lacks dedicated parking.
The finale of La Città della Pizza takes place within the framework of Vinòforum: entry to the event is via Vinòforum tickets, available on the official website. The festival evenings are held at night. For updated information on prices, reservations, and the program, consult the websites lacittadellapizza.it and vinoforum.it.
