The road race that runs through the streets of Caivano
The Kurrenn Kurrenn Road Race is one of the most cherished sporting events in Caivano, a town located north of Naples in the Campania region. Every spring, the town center transforms into a large urban circuit, hosting over a thousand athletes, including professional runners, amateurs, and enthusiasts from all over the region and beyond. More than just a competition, the Kurrenn Kurrenn has become a true community celebration—a moment where sport intertwines with local life and the rediscovery of the territory.
The race covers a distance of approximately 10 kilometers along a flat, fully paved urban route closed to traffic. The meeting point, start, and finish line are located at the Via Rosselli Market Area, which serves as the event's headquarters. The course winds through the main streets of Caivano, passing by historic monuments and landmarks, allowing participants to run through the heart of the city, cheered on by spectators lining the streets.
The Kurrenn Kurrenn is a regional road race recognized by FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation) and organized by Atletica Caivano, in collaboration with the Municipality of Caivano, FIDAL Campania, and CSEN. The race is open to absolute, senior, and master athletes (men and women) who are registered with FIDAL, hold a Runcard, or are members of sports promotion bodies recognized by CONI. A commitment to inclusivity is a hallmark of the event, which also welcomes athletes with disabilities.
With its high turnout, the event serves as a vital vehicle for promoting sports and enhancing the image of Caivano. The presence of dozens of sports clubs, the colorful jerseys, and the enthusiasm of the fans create an atmosphere that perfectly balances competition and social connection, bringing people out into the streets and showcasing a positive, vibrant side of the town. The municipal administration has supported the growth of the race for years, aiming to solidify its prestige within the Campanian running circuit.
The race's curious name is a playful, dialect-inspired invitation to «run, run»: a simple and immediate way to capture the spirit of the event. Behind this name lies a desire to link the race to local identity, turning a sporting competition into a highly anticipated popular gathering where athletic effort meets the joy of coming together to experience one's city.
The seventh edition of the Kurrenn Kurrenn Road Race was held on Sunday, May 24, 2026, with the start at 8:30 AM from the Via Rosselli Market Area. Presented at the Palazzo Marchesale in Caivano, the event confirmed its deep roots in the Campanian running calendar, returning to the spotlight after a period of interruption.
There were 1,360 registered participants, representing approximately 180 sports clubs; 1,223 athletes crossed the finish line (1,062 men and 162 women) along the flat, traffic-free urban course of approximately 10 kilometers.
