Kites Festival

A day of kites in the Reggiano Apennines

Kites Festival is the event dedicated to kite flying that animates the plateau of Monte Leto, next to the evocative Pieve di San Vitale di Carpineti, in the heart of the Reggiano Apennines. Organized by the association Bailando por la Vida APS, which manages the Pieve complex, the event transforms the ridge into a colorful sky of kites dancing with the wind for a day, in a natural setting of rare beauty.

Kites, colors, and a message of peace

The common thread of the event is a message of pluralism, dialogue, and inclusion as tools for peace: the multicolored kites moving in the wind become the symbol of an open and welcoming community. Colorful installations are set up along the meadow, while adults and children can launch their own kite in just a few steps, enjoying a day of friendship and sustainability.

Market, photography contest, and refreshments

The day, which takes place from 10 AM until sunset, offers various activities:

• Kite market (from 10 AM to 7 PM), in collaboration with Mangiafuoco Shop of Reggio Emilia, where you can buy your kite and fly it;
• Free photography contest titled "The Multicolored Blue", with awards for the best images taken during the event in the following weeks;
• Refreshment bar (from 10 AM until late evening) with sandwiches, focaccia, gnocco fritto, and local specialties;
• Free shuttle service non-stop from 10 AM to 7 PM along Via Santa Caterina, to easily reach the plateau;
• the possibility to walk the Sentiero Dorato (Golden Path), a walk of about 30 minutes towards the Castle of Carpineti.

The Pieve di San Vitale and the territory of Carpineti

The event is part of the calendar of the Pieve di San Vitale, an ancient Romanesque building nestled in the UNESCO MaB Reserve of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and now a multifunctional space with a stone museum, hostel, and refreshment area. We are in the Municipality of Carpineti, in the province of Reggio Emilia, in Emilia-Romagna: a territory of ridges, Matildic castles, and villages that, in spring, offers an ideal setting for an outdoor day of nature, culture, and conviviality.
