The patronal feast of Saints Peter and Paul in Collepietra, Val d'Ega
The Kirchtag Peter & Paul in Steinegg is the patronal festival of the village of Collepietra (Steinegg in German), located in the municipality of Cornedo all'Isarco/Karneid, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. The German term Kirchtag refers to the feast dedicated to the titular saints of the parish church; here, the patrons are Saints Peter and Paul, celebrated around June 29th. The parish church of Collepietra, dedicated to the two apostles, houses frescoes from the late 18th century and bears witness to a religious tradition that has defined village life for centuries.
The event takes place at the covered Festplatz in Steinegg and is organized by the Musikkapelle Steinegg, the local brass band that serves as the beating heart of the festivities. The program follows the classic structure of a Tyrolean Kirchtag, spanning two days:
The musicians of the Musikkapelle perform in traditional attire, playing marches, folk melodies, and contemporary compositions—a repertoire that has marked community events in South Tyrol for generations.
The festival is also the perfect opportunity to discover Collepietra, nestled on a plateau at an altitude of approximately 820 meters above the Tires Valley. Together with the nearby San Valentino in Campo, it forms Europe's first Village of Stars, recognized for having some of the most beautiful and clearest night skies in Italy. Between themed trails, earth pyramids, and the rural traditions preserved in the local museum, the Kirchtag offers an ideal chance to experience the authentic hospitality of the Val d'Ega, in a corner of Trentino-Alto Adige where Tyrolean customs remain deeply rooted.
A moment of connection for the entire Steinegg community and its visitors, the Kirchtag Peter & Paul blends the spiritual dimension of a patronal feast with a convivial, popular spirit. It is a window into South Tyrolean culture, defined by brass bands, traditional costumes, mountain cuisine, and the simple pleasure of being together.
The 2026 Kirchtag Peter & Paul in Steinegg was held on Saturday, June 27th, and Sunday, June 28th at the covered Festplatz in Collepietra, in the municipality of Cornedo all'Isarco. The festival opened on Saturday evening with music and conviviality; Sunday began at 10:30 AM with a solemn Holy Mass and a procession accompanied by the brass band, followed by the Frühschoppen and traditional Tyrolean culinary specialties.
