The Kirchtag of Obervintl, the heart of Puster Valley tradition

The Kirchtag Obervintl is the patronal festival of the village of Obervintl (Vandoies di Sopra), part of the municipality of Vintl (Vandoies), in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of the Puster Valley in South Tyrol. The German term Kirchtag refers to the feast day dedicated to the village church, an event that across South Tyrol blends religious tradition with conviviality, featuring music, local food, and community gatherings.

Organized by the volunteer fire department

The event is organized by the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Obervintl, the local volunteer fire brigade. The festival takes place at the fire station on Wiesenweg and is one of the most cherished summer events in the village: proceeds help support the activities of the brigade, which is deeply rooted in the local community.

Live music, dancing, and village atmosphere

The program combines the tradition of a South Tyrolean Volksfest with the joy of a village fair. Throughout the weekend, local folk and dance bands from the Puster Valley perform, enlivening the marquee during family afternoons and dance evenings. Entertainment for the little ones is also provided, with a bouncy castle available for children.

Gastronomic specialties

The star of the show is traditional South Tyrolean cuisine, served at the food stands run by the volunteers. Highlights include Tirschtlan, typical South Tyrolean fried pastries, alongside hot dishes, homemade desserts, and local drinks, all in a genuine atmosphere of Puster Valley hospitality.

When it takes place

The Kirchtag Obervintl is traditionally held on a weekend in September, with events on Saturday evening and Sunday for lunch.
