About Kirchtag St. Lorenzen

The Kirchtag in St. Lorenzen is the traditional village festival of San Lorenzo di Sebato in the Puster Valley (South Tyrol). Organized by the Musikkapelle St. Lorenzen, the valley's oldest brass band founded in 1818, the festival brings the village center to life every September with brass music, guest band parades, entertainment groups, dancing, South Tyrolean gastronomy, and a lively atmosphere that unites the entire Puster Valley community.

A village festival in the heart of the Puster Valley

The Kirchtag in St. Lorenzen, the patronal festival of San Lorenzo di Sebato/St. Lorenzen, is one of the most cherished summer events in the Puster Valley, in the province of Bolzano (Trentino-South Tyrol). In the calendar of South Tyrolean festivities, the Kirchtag represents the classic village fair, a moment when the community gathers around its local brass band to celebrate traditions with music, dancing, and conviviality.

The Musikkapelle St. Lorenzen, the soul of the festival

The heart and organizer of the event is the Musikkapelle St. Lorenzen, the oldest brass band in the Puster Valley, founded in 1818. With its dozens of musicians in traditional costume, the band is a pillar of the village's identity: during the Kirchtag, it leads the parades, performs concerts in the pavilion set up in Franz-Hellweger-Platz, and welcomes guest bands from other parts of South Tyrol.

Music, brass, and entertainment

The program alternates between the brass music (Blasmusik) typical of South Tyrol and the dance music of popular entertainment groups. The days open with parades of guest bands, followed by their concerts in the pavilion, while the evenings give way to Stimmungsmusik bands that keep the party going late into the night. It is a unique opportunity to hear the Alpine tradition live, featuring polkas, waltzes, and marches.

Gastronomy and atmosphere

The food and wine selection is a highlight: stands offering South Tyrolean specialties, typical Puster Valley dishes, desserts, beer, and drinks accompany the two days of festivities. The atmosphere is the genuine, family-friendly one of South Tyrolean Kirchtage, where tradition, music, and good food intertwine in an event open to both residents and visitors.

The setting: San Lorenzo di Sebato

The Municipality of San Lorenzo di Sebato, located at the mouth of the Badia Valley in the Puster Valley, just south of Brunico, is a town with ancient roots, heir to the Roman settlement of Sebatum. The Kirchtag represents one of its most authentic community moments, capable of drawing people from neighboring hamlets and towns into a celebration that combines faith, popular tradition, and a passion for brass music.

Kirchtag St. Lorenzen — edition 2026

The Kirchtag in St. Lorenzen will return in 2026 with its traditional village festival, organized by the Musikkapelle St. Lorenzen in San Lorenzo di Sebato, Puster Valley. Official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: as per tradition, the festival is usually held during the first weekends of September in Franz-Hellweger-Platz.

The 2026 edition of the Kirchtag in St. Lorenzen is expected to take place in early September, but official dates have not yet been published by the organizers. The event, managed by the Musikkapelle St. Lorenzen, will feature the classic program of brass music, guest band parades, entertainment groups, and food stands in the center of San Lorenzo di Sebato. The detailed program will be announced by the band closer to the event.
