About Ronegga Kirschta

The Kirchtag in Rodeneck, known in the local dialect as Ronegga Kirschta, is the annual village festival of Rodeneck in the Lower Puster Valley, South Tyrol. Every summer, typically in July, the village of Vill comes alive around the Konrad von Rodank community center for two days of celebration: live music with local bands, South Tyrolean culinary delights, fine wine and beer, and plenty of entertainment for all ages. It is an authentic festival that serves as the heart of the farming traditions of the Rodeneck plateau.

The village festival of Rodeneck

The Kirchtag in Rodeneck, known in the South Tyrolean dialect as Ronegga Kirschta, is the annual village festival of Rodeneck (Rodengo in Italian), a small town overlooking the Rienz gorge at the entrance to the Lower Puster Valley, in the Province of Bolzano. The term Kirchtag refers to the traditional feast day celebrating the local church's patron saint in German-speaking regions: it is one of the most cherished events on the community calendar, bringing together the entire village and the surrounding hamlets on the plateau.

Where it takes place

The festival is held in the hamlet of Vill, at the Konrad von Rodank community center (Vereinshaus), named after the Bishop of Brixen who belonged to the noble Rodank family in the 13th century, lords of the nearby Rodenegg Castle, famous for its early 13th-century frescoes. The main hall and outdoor areas host food stalls, the stage, and entertainment zones.

Music and entertainment

The traditional program spans two days. Saturday evening is dedicated to live music, with South Tyrolean folk groups keeping the party going until late. Sunday kicks off with the classic Frühschoppen, a morning aperitif accompanied by brass bands from neighboring towns, followed by afternoon performances from traditional orchestras. Families are well catered for, with a bouncy castle and activities for children.

Flavors of South Tyrol

The heart of the Ronegga Kirschta is its traditional gastronomy: South Tyrolean farmhouse dishes, homemade desserts, beer, and local wine served at stalls managed by local associations. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the flavors of the Rodeneck plateau, nestled among meadows, forests, and the famous alpine pastures of the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm, one of the largest high plateaus in Europe.

A tradition to experience

Organized by the Rodeneck tourist board with the involvement of local groups, the Ronegga Kirschta is much more than just a party: it is a way to experience the identity and hospitality of this authentic corner of the Puster Valley, far from the major tourist circuits and close to the community's roots.
