The spread-out Advent in Terento, between the decorated village and the Stockner Waldile forest
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Puster Valley, the small village of Terento (Terenten in German), located in the province of Bolzano in Trentino-South Tyrol, wraps itself in a cozy Christmas atmosphere every December with the Tearna Advent. Unlike the large South Tyrolean Christmas markets, there is no single crowded square here: the Advent is spread out, distributed along an experiential path that winds through the decorated village and extends to the edge of the forest.
From the traditionally decorated village, visitors are guided toward the community center, where children can try their hand at baking cookies, and to the nativity scene exhibition, which tells the story of the Baby Jesus through various artistic interpretations. At the playground, you will find stalls featuring handmade crafts and a small petting zoo for the little ones. The path then continues, lit by torches and fairy lights, to the Stockner Waldile, a forest on the outskirts of the village where rustic cabins offer nativity displays and local farmhouse specialties.
In the afternoons, children take center stage with cookie-baking workshops, while weekend evenings host fairy-tale nights, complete with bonfires and storytelling. The Advent season is traditionally inaugurated by the St. Nicholas parade, which departs from the fire station on December 6th and travels through the town center. With Tearna Advent, the community of Terento aims to connect children, families, and guests with rural culture and Christmas traditions, refocusing on the true meaning of Advent: anticipation, gratitude, and the beauty of small things.
Thanks to its intimate size and the alpine setting of the Gitschberg Jochtal region, Tearna Advent is one of the most authentic Christmas experiences in the Puster Valley: an event designed for families, where slow living, the glow of torches, and mountain flavors take the place of commercial frenzy.
At the moment, the Municipality of Terento and the Gitschberg Jochtal tourist board have not yet published the dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Tearna Advent. Following the tradition of previous years, the event is expected to return on the weekends of December, opening with the St. Nicholas parade. The program will be updated as soon as it is made official by the organizers.
Terento (Terenten) is located in the Puster Valley, in the province of Bolzano, within the Gitschberg Jochtal tourist region. The village is accessible via the Puster Valley road; the nearest train station is in Vandoies/Vintl, which is connected by local bus lines.
The event takes place along a walking path that leads from the village center to the Stockner Waldile forest: warm clothing and snow-appropriate footwear are recommended.
For updated dates and programs, we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Terento and the Gitschberg Jochtal tourist board.
