Bruneck's town centre transforms into a giant playground for families
Every year in September, the historic centre of Bruneck (Brunico), the main town in the Puster Valley in the province of Bolzano, comes alive with the Children's Festival (known in German as Kinderfest Bruneck). For two days, the Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz) and the surrounding streets are transformed into a large outdoor playground entirely dedicated to the little ones, featuring a rich and colourful programme designed for children and teenagers aged 0 to 14.
The programme is designed to entertain the whole family. Throughout the square and the town centre, numerous stations managed by educators and volunteers offer children the chance to try a wide variety of activities:
The event is organised by the Bruneck Kronplatz Tourism Association in collaboration with Die Kinderfreunde Südtirol, the South Tyrolean association that has been promoting recreational and educational activities for children for decades. Admission is free: the festival is intended as a moment of gathering for families from the municipality of Bruneck, the Puster Valley, and the many tourists visiting the Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) area.
Located in Trentino-Alto Adige, Bruneck is one of the most beloved destinations in South Tyrol, known for its pedestrianised historic centre, its castle, and its proximity to the Plan de Corones mountain. In this bilingual Italian-German setting, the Children's Festival is a fixed late-summer appointment, filling the town's main square with laughter and colour while offering families a carefree day in the open air among the mountains of the Puster Valley.
The 2026 edition takes place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, in the centre of Bruneck. The Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz) and the surrounding streets will host dozens of play stations for children and teenagers aged 0 to 14.
The programme includes climbing, dance and craft stations, face painting, puppet theatre, movement games, graphic design workshops, and trampolines. The event is organised by the Bruneck Kronplatz Tourism Association with Die Kinderfreunde Südtirol, and admission is free.
