The journalism festival of Ronchi dei Legionari
In Ronchi dei Legionari, in the province of Gorizia, journalism takes centre stage every June with the Leali delle Notizie festival. Founded in 2015, it has grown to become one of the most important events in the Northeast dedicated to information, attracting columnists, correspondents, and editors from all over Italy and abroad.
Organised by the Associazione Culturale Leali delle Notizie, the festival tackles the major issues of current events – from press freedom to international conflicts, from geopolitics to artificial intelligence applied to information – in a packed programme of meetings, masterclasses, book launches, exhibitions, and shows.
Two awards give the festival a strong and civic identity. The Cristina Visintini Award is dedicated to aspiring journalists focusing on climate change and the environment; the Daphne Caruana Galizia Award, in memory of the Maltese journalist murdered in 2017, is presented to those who distinguish themselves in investigative journalism and the defence of freedom of information. These awards remind us how courageous and risky the reporter's job can be.
The festival is preceded by "Aspettando il Festival..." (Waiting for the Festival...), a series of introductory events with meetings held in various municipalities of the Isontino and Bassa Friulana areas, demonstrating the initiative's deep roots in the region. With the high patronage of the European Parliament and the Ministry of Culture, Leali delle Notizie combines in-depth analysis, dissemination, and civic engagement in an open dialogue with the public.
From June 9th to 14th, 2026, Ronchi dei Legionari hosts the twelfth edition of Leali delle Notizie, with the high patronage of the European Parliament and the Ministry of Culture. The programme includes 175 guests and features 4 exhibitions, 4 shows, and 55 panels, including meetings, masterclasses, and editorial and video presentations.
Topics range from artificial intelligence to the role of information, from international conflicts to press freedom, from climate change to global geopolitics. Among the expected guests are journalists such as Alessandra Briganti, Anna Zafesova, and the director of Fanpage.it, Francesco Cancellato.
The festival is preceded by the "Aspettando il Festival..." (Waiting for the Festival...) series (May 15-24), with meetings held in various municipalities of the Isontino and Bassa Friulana areas.
