Trieste, the capital of photography
Every autumn, Trieste transforms into the Italian capital of contemporary photography. Trieste Photo Days, organized by the dotART Cultural Association, is the festival that brings together the results of the international Urban Photo Awards competition and the selections from Exhibit Around in a single major event, celebrating photographers and their art.
Over two thousand works on display
The festival features more than two thousand works exhibited in the city's museums and spaces, from the large Magazzino 26 in the Old Port to the Sala Veruda, and the Museum of Oriental Art. Solo and group exhibitions, screenings, and installations create a journey that intertwines urban photography, portraiture, reportage, and authorial research.
International masters and new talents
The pulsating heart of the event consists of talks, meetings, and workshops that bring world-renowned photographers to Trieste. Among the guests in recent editions were Magnum photographer Matt Black, Paolo Verzone, and critic Denis Curti. Alongside the masters, the festival provides space for emerging talents, fostering a continuous dialogue between experience and experimentation.
A network starting from Trieste
Supported by the Municipality of Trieste and the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, Trieste Photo Days is the hub of an international network of photographic initiatives promoted by dotART. For enthusiasts and professionals, it is an unmissable event, capable of combining great author photography with the Mitteleuropean charm of the Julian city.
Trieste Photo Days — edition 2026
The thirteenth edition of Trieste Photo Days takes place from October 23 to 25, 2026, reaffirming Trieste as the capital of contemporary photography. The festival offers over two thousand works exhibited in city museums and spaces, talks with renowned photographers, workshops, and the presentation of the Urban Photo Awards.
Among the featured exhibitions is "Female Portraits in Dialogue" at Sala Veruda, a project curated by Exhibit Around APS and the Fototeca dei Civici Musei (directed by Claudia Colecchia). It juxtaposes historical 19th and 20th-century portraits—from Giuseppe and Marion Wulz to Adriano de Rota—with contemporary works selected through an international call open from April 10, 2026. The Magazzino 26 hosts the "Photography in Symphony" project.
