Windsurfer returns to Torbole sul Garda

On the Upper Trentino Garda, in the municipality of Nago-Torbole (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige), the Circolo Surf Torbole hosts the Italian Championship and the European Championship of the Windsurfer class. It is an event that weaves together sport and heritage: the Windsurfer is the one-design board that defined the history of this discipline, born in the seventies and back in vogue following its 2018 relaunch. Meeting in Torbole means bringing the class back to the place where it first flourished.

A tradition spanning over forty years

The bond between Torbole and the Windsurfer runs deep: the European Championship was held here as early as 1980, followed by numerous editions of the Italian Championships, the 2018 and 2019 Windsurfer World Trophy, and the 2024 European Championships. The choice of Torbole is no coincidence: the lower Trentino lake is world-renowned for its constant and reliable winds, with the afternoon Ora breeze blowing from the south, allowing for spectacular and consistent racing.

Regattas, categories, and community spirit

The events bring together windsurfers of all ages and backgrounds, divided by weight categories (light, medium-light, medium-heavy, and heavy) with dedicated rankings for women and youth (under 19 and junior). The class's typical format alternates between different disciplines: course racing on windward-leeward courses, the long-distance marathon, and slalom, often accompanied by a freestyle event.
