A narrated walk through the farmsteads of San Damiano di Carisio
In the municipality of Carisio, in the Province of Vercelli and in the heart of the Piedmontese Baraggia, the hamlet of San Damiano di Carisio takes center stage for one of the most evocative days of the Incontri in Castello series, promoted by the Castello Consortile di Buronzo. The event on Sunday, April 12, 2026, is entirely built around the theme "the castle and the farmsteads": a journey that intertwines fortified architecture, the history of noble lands, and the agricultural landscape that still defines the rice-growing plains today.
The day kicks off at 3:00 PM at the Castello Consortile di Buronzo with the thematic tour "What a good head of the family: the castle and its lands through the centuries", led by Gabriele Ardizio, a route that evokes the farmsteads and estates that for centuries formed the heritage of the Lords of Buronzo. In the afternoon, the focus shifts to the territory of Carisio: at 5:00 PM, in the hamlet of San Damiano di Carisio, there will be a walk through the village enriched by the storytelling of Pier Emilio Calliera, who recounts the lands, farmsteads, and memories of the Vercelli countryside.
The festival does not forget families: in conjunction with the castle visit, a treasure hunt is scheduled for 3:30 PM, free for children and teenagers, organized by the association CAM Crea/Attiva-Mente. It is a way to introduce the younger generations to the history of the area in a playful and engaging way.
The initiative is part of the Incontri in Castello 2025-26 calendar, a series that offers one event per month from September to June, including thematic guided tours, music, storytelling, and extraordinary openings of the manors of the Baraggia. The stop in San Damiano di Carisio is an opportunity to explore the deep bond between the castles of the Vercelli area and the farmsteads that supported their economy, in a corner of Piedmont often far from the most beaten tourist paths.
The event is promoted by the municipal administration of Buronzo together with the Associazione Amici del Castello di Buronzo and local volunteers, with the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Vercelli and the collaboration of the Comitato Buronzese Festa e Cultura.
